Summary Statement

The Criminal Division\r\nseeks a Deputy Attorney General to serve as the Special Victims Unit in Sussex\r\nCounty. The Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit work closely with medical\r\nprofessionals, detectives, and child welfare professionals to investigate\r\nsexual assaults, child death, abuse and neglect cases; evaluate available\r\nevidence for charging; and prosecute crimes supported by the evidence.\r\n

Essential Functions

The Deputy Attorney\r\nGeneral will be required to decide what cases should be prosecuted, whether\r\nplea offers should be made on a case-by-case basis, and what cases should\r\nproceed to trial. The Deputy Attorney General will then be required to\r\ntry cases that are not otherwise resolved.\r\n

Job Requirements

The Deputy Attorney\r\nGeneral must possess the ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine\r\nresolutions, anticipate legal issues, and research accurately and\r\neffectively. This candidate must be able to manage investigations,\r\nevaluate cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues with the\r\nability to research accurately and effectively. In addition, the candidate must\r\nbe able to develop a good working relationship with detectives, medical\r\npersonnel, child welfare professionals, other Deputy Attorneys General, support\r\nstaff and Court personnel. Moreover, it\r\nis expected that this prosecutor must have the ability to work in a fast-paced\r\nenvironment. Finally, the Deputy Attorney General must have the ability\r\nto learn and apply the relevant laws and court rules.Membership in\r\nthe Delaware Bar is required.\r\n

Conditions of Hire

\r\nEmployment is contingent upon satisfactory background checks.\r\n\r\nDirect deposit of paychecks is required as a condition of hire.\r\n\r\nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United\r\nStates.\r\n\r\nThis position is\r\npart of a job classification that is represented by an exclusive bargaining\r\nrepresentative (labor organization), as elected by employees in accordance with\r\nTitle 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapters 13 and 16. While this position is\r\nnow covered under a bargaining unit, a collective bargaining agreement is\r\ncurrently under negotiation, and terms and conditions of employment may be\r\nsubject to change upon its ratification.\r\n

Benefits

This\r\nis a casual seasonal position that is non-pension-eligible and does not include\r\nhealth care or other benefits. This position is approved to work up to 29.75 hours per week and is paid on an hourly basis for hours worked.\r\n
