Job Summary
The part-time lab assistant will support laboratory operations by assisting with lab preparation, maintenance, and cleanup, or providing guidance and tutoring to students.
Required Qualifications
  • Must have completed a minimum of 8 semester credit hours in Chemistry and earned an A in all applicable courses

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tutoring students
  • A background in the Chemistry field, and/or a Chemistry or Biology major

Essential Functions
Tutoring Duties
  • Tutor students in Chemistry, providing academic support and clarification of course material
  • Must be organized and reliable to effectively assist students
  • Record hours worked and submit time sheets to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner

Laboratory Duties
  • Assist with lab preparation for upcoming courses
  • Prepare chemical solutions and other materials needed for laboratory experiments
  • Perform lab clean-up tasks, including washing glassware and equipment
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of lab supplies and restock as needed
  • Carry out other duties as assigned to support lab operations

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift or move lab equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods
  • Classroom, lab, and office setting
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
