Description:Specimen Accessioner

Location: North Carolina (CDNC)
Reports To: Reporting Services Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt


About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Specimen Accessioner to join our pathology laboratory team. This role is critical in ensuring accurate receipt, logging, and processing of surgical specimens while maintaining integrity, compliance, and efficiency in laboratory workflows.


Key Responsibilities
  • Accession and process all surgical specimens by entering patient demographics and test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Scan and verify supporting documents; conduct QA reviews to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Handle specimens with care to maintain integrity throughout the process.
  • Communicate with supervisors and departments to resolve discrepancies or corrections.
  • Pull, file, and distribute pathology slides and blocks accurately.
  • Assist with preparation of client supplies and other duties during slower periods.
  • Follow all safety and regulatory standards, including proper use of PPE.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma (required).
  • Experience:
    • 1+ year of anatomic pathology or histology accessioning experience (preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Strong data entry skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to understand and use medical terminology.
    • Clear written and verbal communication in English.
    • Ability to work with repetitive tasks and small print labeling.
Work Environment
  • Extended periods of sitting and standing at a workstation.
  • Frequent repetitive motions.
  • Moderate noise level environment.
  • Occasionally lifting, carrying, or pushing up to 25 lbs.
