JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

TheEnglish for Professional Purposes Intercultural Center (EPPIC)in the Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications forpart-timeacademiclanguage specialistpositions.

EPPIC isan academic support and researchcenter in Penn State'shighly-rankedDepartment of Applied Linguistics that provides advanced English language communication support services to multilingual students, scholars, faculty, and staff across Penn State's global community.EPPICconductsresearch in applied linguistics, language for specific purposes (LSP), analysis ofspoken and writtenacademic discourseacross disciplines, and draws on Vygotskyan Sociocultural Theory in its approach to teaching.

Responsibilities of the academic language specialist position includeproviding direct language support tomultilingual students and scholars,conductingneeds analysis, designing instructional materials,andcollaborating with the EPPIC team onassigned projects. Candidatesshould have an MA in TESL or a related field, andpreviousexperience teachingboth academic speaking and writing in English as anadditionallanguage to graduate studentsin a university setting.

The position will entail 10-15 hours per week starting in September 2026. Review of applications will beginimmediatelyand continue until the positions are filled.

(Hourly pay rate: $21.00, with possibility of higher rate of pay depending on qualifications).
