Job description

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Our Before and After School Care staff play a key role in engaging with youth while providing excellent educational care. With a focus on academic enhancement, safety, health, and social growth, our Before and After School programs allow children to explore and develop their interests and talents. All of our available positions offer the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of young people. If you have a passion for working with children, we have a role for you!

POSITIONS AVAILABLE & HOURLY WAGE RANGES:

Part-Time and Full-Time positions available; various shifts Monday-Friday 6:00am - 6:00pm

  • Before and After School Care Assistant Instructor (age 16+): $15.00
  • Before and After School Care Instructor (age 18+): $16.00 - $18.00*
  • Before and After School, 4K Wrap, & Camp Specialist (age 18+): $18.00 - $20.00*
  • Before and After School Care Site Supervisor (age 18+): $20.00 - $22.00
  • Lead Teacher Offsite 4K Wrap Care (age 18+): $20.00 - $22.00

*Starting at top of range if job-specific certifications are met

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and actively participate in daily activities for youth before and after school to engage students.
  2. Serve as a role model to staff and participants.
  3. Full-time positions will be assigned a role serving the day camp program in the summer months.
  4. Develop positive relationships will the staff, families, and children while providing motivational support and guidance through caring interactions and prompt service and maintaining appropriate communication.
  5. Maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department requirements.
  6. Ensure safety and cleanliness of learning spaces and classrooms.
  7. Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County's emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations.
  8. Uphold the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility when working with people within the YMCA facilities and in the community.
  9. Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families, or other regulatory agencies.
  10. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  11. Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent (for all positions except assistant instructors).
  2. Must meet all licensing requirements required for the position hired for.
  3. Prior experience in a licensed childcare program preferred.
  4. Must be able and willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (if applicable), Mandated Reporter, and Wisconsin Child Care Registry certifications, and additional non-credit coursework (as needed).
  5. Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  7. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  8. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  9. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
