Job Description

The Ranger III Server works aboard the Ranger III Ferry in the snack bar as the vessel travels a twice weekly route from Houghton, Michigan to Isle Royale National Park, staying overnight at Rock Harbor.  The Ranger III Server must reside in Houghton, MI. This Ranger III server will not live in employee housing on the Island.

Job Responsibilities
  • The Ranger III Server takes guest?s food orders and either calls them in to the preparation department, or prepares the order themselves.
  • Completed orders are picked up and carried from the preparation area to the snack bar and served to guest.
  • Menus must be learned thoroughly for content and preparation method for each item.
  • Ranger III Servers clean and reset tables, carry dirty dishes, tray, etc., to the galley, and assist in maintaning a clean, neat, and orderly dining area.
  • Sweeping and mopping the snack bar area daily is a responsibility each server must share.
  • Servers are expected to learn consistent service procedures by following the corporation?s established guidelines for serving style and method of service.
  • Accurately ring up sales on the cash register and make the proper change.

A high school education or equivalent is needed.  A Ranger III Server must be able to:

  • Total guest checks accurately, quickly, and legibly.
  • Develop and communicate a thorough knowledge of menus.
  • Read and comprehend training materials.
  • Ranger III Servers must, above all, serve the guest with a spirit of courtesy, hospitality, and helpfulness.  ?Courtesy, our greatest asset, costs us nothing.?
