Job description

Summary

Working under the direction of the Flight Nurse, the paramedic has the responsibility and accountability for assuring the delivery of quality care for a designated patient and/or group of patients in accordance with individual patient's needs, hospital and departmental policies and protocols, standards of care and established by EMS Commission and Flight Medical Director.

Education

High school diploma or GED required. Must have completed a State approved Paramedic course. Additional post high school education desirable.

Licensure/Certification

Meets Indiana State Paramedic guidelines and holds a valid state paramedic certification/license. Valid driver's license required. Must maintain current CPR, ACLS, and PALS or PEPP certifications.   Must obtain PHTLS or ITLS within 1 year of hire/transfer. FP-C or CCP-C required within 2 years of hire/transfer (current employees as of 7/24/16 will have until 7/24/18 to obtain.) NRP required within 2 years of hire/transfer (current employees as of 7/24/16 will have until 7/24/18 to obtain.)

Experience

Five years experience as a paramedic in the pre-hospital setting required.

Other Qualifications

Must attend staff meetings as required or requested by the Director Flight/EMS Services. Must attend 80% of Grand Rounds for full time employees and pro-rated for part time employees. Must attend bi-annual critical skills lab. Must attend bi-annual recurrent safety training. Must maintain local, state and federal safety training requirements. Must maintain a physical level sufficient to provide essential functions and meet height/weight guidelines.
