Position Overview
Sofidel America is looking for a dedicated Paper Machine Tender to join our team and contribute to our mission. As a Paper Machine Tender, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our paper mill. You will be responsible for monitoring operations, addressing personnel issues, and troubleshooting equipment problems. Your work will support our commitment to Sofidel's Employee Personal Practice Policy. This position will be based in our Circleville, OH.
Job Responsibilities
• Support Sofidel America's Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to maintain a safe, sanitary, and hygienically sound workplace.
• Ensure all operations are conducted safely, fostering a harmonious work environment, and addressing personnel issues when necessary.
• Work from written and verbal instructions as well as the production schedule.
• Monitor the paper mill's operation using computer systems, interpreting mill activity, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Use visual, auditory, and olfactory senses to examine equipment, identify potential issues, and ensure proper operation and product quality.
• Collaborate with mechanics, technicians, and supervision to resolve operational problems.
• Oversee stock preparation activities, maintaining appropriate soft and hard wood chest levels for designated product runs.
• Monitor all phases of mill operation.
• Calculate process speeds and product levels, making adjustments for quality production.
• Clean and service the machine, coordinating with the crew for service tasks.
• Perform prescribed tests to ensure product quality, document results, and take corrective action if needed.
• Prepare rolls for removal from the mill and coordinate the movement of jumbo rolls as necessary.
• Conduct first-level maintenance on the machine to ensure optimal operation.
• Participate in process improvement efforts, identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and collaborate with outside contractors on special projects or repairs.
• Assist with housekeeping duties to maintain facility cleanliness and organization.
• Perform or assist with any operations required to maintain workflow, meet schedules, and uphold quality standards.
• Maintain a safe work area, follow safety procedures and equipment operating rules, and support quality, housekeeping, and sanitation standards.
• Participate in meetings and work groups to communicate issues, resolve problems, and stay informed about developments, requirements, and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One to three years of related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Lift certification
  • Overhead crane training
