How much do paper engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average yearly pay for paper engineer in Michigan is $70,817.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34,248.00 and $96,599.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges a Paper Engineer might face when collaborating with designers and manufacturers?

Paper Engineers often work closely with graphic designers and manufacturers to turn creative concepts into functional paper structures, such as pop-up books or packaging. A common challenge is bridging the gap between artistic vision and the technical limitations of paper, such as weight, foldability, and durability. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are essential to ensure that designs are both visually compelling and structurally sound, all while staying within budget and production timelines. Collaboration also frequently involves adapting to changes or troubleshooting prototypes, making flexibility and attention to detail important assets in this role.

What are paper engineers?

Paper engineers are professionals who design and create structures, mechanisms, and products using paper and cardboard. They are best known for developing pop-up books, greeting cards, packaging, and other intricate paper-based items that require engineering skills to ensure functionality and durability. Paper engineers combine creativity with technical knowledge of materials, folds, and mechanisms to turn flat sheets of paper into three-dimensional, interactive works.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and working in high-demand industries or leadership roles.

What do paper engineers do?

A paper engineer designs and develops paper products, such as packaging, greeting cards, and pop-up books, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software. They work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible and meet quality standards, requiring skills in design, engineering, and an understanding of paper materials.

What is the difference between Paper Engineer vs Graphic Designer?

AspectPaper EngineerGraphic Designer
Required CredentialsDesign or engineering degree, specialized knowledge in paper and packagingDesign degree, portfolio, proficiency in design software
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, packaging companies, manufacturing settingsAdvertising agencies, media companies, freelance or corporate offices
Industry UsagePackaging, product design, paper artsAdvertising, branding, digital media

While both Paper Engineers and Graphic Designers work creatively, Paper Engineers focus on designing innovative paper-based structures and packaging, often requiring engineering knowledge. Graphic Designers primarily create visual content for branding and marketing. The roles overlap in creative problem-solving but differ in technical focus and industry applications.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

High-paying jobs that can reach $2000 a day often include specialized roles such as senior corporate lawyers, top-tier consultants, investment bankers, and certain medical specialists like surgeons. These positions typically require advanced skills, extensive experience, and often involve high-pressure environments or significant responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Paper Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Paper Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or chemical engineering, material science, and papermaking processes, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, paper testing equipment, and manufacturing process control systems is typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork are crucial soft skills for designing innovative paper products and optimizing production. These skills ensure efficient production, high-quality products, and the ability to meet evolving industry demands.

What jobs make 10,000 a month without a degree?

A paper engineer typically does not earn $10,000 a month without specialized skills or experience. High-paying jobs that can reach this level without a degree include roles like sales managers, real estate brokers, or skilled trades such as electricians or plumbers, often requiring certifications or extensive experience. Success in these fields depends on skill, reputation, and market demand rather than formal education alone.

Job description

Electrical Engineer

Build More Than Systems. Build a Life on Lake Michigan.

There are engineering jobs. And then there are opportunities to design your career in a place people vacation to.

At ProAmpac in Manistique, we’re looking for an Electrical Engineer who wants meaningful work, visible impact, and a different pace of life than crowded cities and endless commutes.

Located along the northern shore of Lake Michigan in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Manistique offers something increasingly hard to find: space to breathe, four true seasons, incredible outdoor recreation, and a close-knit community where your work matters.

This is not a “small cog in a giant machine” engineering role.

This is a hands-on opportunity to influence operations, modernize systems, support capital projects, improve reliability, and directly impact production in a 24/7 manufacturing facility producing 100% recycled brown kraft paper rolls.

If you enjoy solving problems in real time, partnering closely with operations and maintenance, and seeing your work come to life on the plant floor, this role delivers that every day.

Why People Are Drawn to Manistique

People relocate to the Upper Peninsula for the lifestyle.

Manistique offers:

• Waterfront living near Lake Michigan

• Boating, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, kayaking, hunting, and skiing nearby

• Stunning fall colors and peaceful winters

• Affordable living compared to major metro areas

• Minimal traffic and short commutes

• A strong sense of community and work-life balance

You’re also near iconic destinations like Kitch-iti-kipi, one of Michigan’s most beautiful natural springs.

For the right engineer, this role is more than a job change. It’s a lifestyle change.

What You’ll Do

As the Electrical Engineer, you will design, implement, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems throughout the mill.

You’ll work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to improve equipment reliability, process efficiency, safety, and production performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and proactively support safety programs and best practices

• Provide electrical engineering leadership across mill operations

• Support troubleshooting and optimization of production equipment

• Lead and support capital projects from concept through execution

• Partner cross-functionally on process improvements and technology advancements

• Drive operational efficiency, cost savings, and reliability initiatives

• Provide engineering and technical support to operations and maintenance teams

• Support strategic initiatives focused on safety, sustainability, and operational performance

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

• Clear communication and collaboration skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based systems

• A hands-on mindset with a desire to make a visible impact

Manufacturing, paper, pulp, converting, industrial automation, or heavy industrial experience is highly valued.

Why ProAmpac

ProAmpac is a leading global flexible packaging company serving diverse markets with innovative and sustainable packaging solutions.

Our work is guided by five core values: Integrity. Intensity. Innovation. Involvement. Impact.

The Manistique facility operates 24/7 and specializes in manufacturing 100% recycled brown kraft paper rolls, supporting sustainability initiatives and essential packaging operations across industries.

ProAmpac Benefits & Perks

• Competitive compensation

• Referral and production bonus programs

• 11 paid holidays

• Flexible vacation

• Gym membership assistance

• Education assistance

• Employee dependent scholarship program

• Incentive-based wellness program

• Medical, dental, vision, and legal benefits

• 401(k) with company match

Ready for Something Different?

Some careers give you a title. Some give you ownership, purpose, and a better quality of life.

This role offers all three.

If you’re looking for an engineering opportunity where your expertise is valued, your work has real operational impact, and your surroundings are as rewarding as the work itself, we’d love to connect.
