Job description

Our engineered, made-to-order architectural products are used in new construction and renovation projects for educational, commercial, institutional, industrial, and municipal applications.

Special-Lite is looking for a Paint Technician to join our team at our Benton Harbor location. As a Paint Tech, you will perform a variety of duties related to the painting of our custom doors and entryways.

Duties include:
  • Inspecting doors, frames, and accessory components for cosmetic defects
  • Sanding or performing cosmetic repairs as needed
  • Hanging doors, frames and accessory components in preparation for priming and painting
  • Mixing and spraying primer and paint according to shop sheet specifications on prepared doors, frames and accessory components.
  • Examining finished product to verify conformance to specification
  • Cleaning and maintaining spray equipment and work area
  • Position Requirements:

    A qualified individual with a disability must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
  • Intermediate mechanical comprehension and abilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions in written, oral, and/or diagram form.
  • Lift 5070lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Complete all work within our safety guidelines.
  • Work and train in other departments as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with spraying wet paint.
  • Previous experience with Bondo and Sanding.
  • Previous manufacturing, assembly, or construction experience.
  • Blueprint or template reading a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.
  • Required to stand and walk.
  • Required to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 70pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Special-Lite will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Work Environment:
  • Safety glasses are always required on the production floor.
