Summary:
The Industrial Paint Process Technician is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and optimization of the plant's powder coat paint line, pretreatment systems, and wastewater treatment systems. This role requires strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, knowledge of industrial coating processes, and experience working with pumps, piping systems, chemical dosing equipment, and fluid handling systems.
The technician works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Environmental teams to ensure the paint and pretreatment systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations. This position requires a hands-on technician capable of troubleshooting mechanical and process issues, maintaining equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities: (This job description in no way implies that these are the only duties to be performed in this position. Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instructions or to perform other job duties requested by their manager.)
1. Monitor automated powder coating equipment including pumps and feeding systems, pneumatic and process valves, automated spray guns.
2. Troubleshoot problems of mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic nature including conveyor systems, powder recovery and filtration systems, industrial ovens and burners.
3. Ability to work with Robots.
4. Maintain and update equipment records, schematics, blueprints, and files in an orderly fashion.
5. Able to read and interpret equipment instructions, diagrams, schematics, and mechanical prints.
6. Able to read and interpret customer specs pertaining to power-coating requirements.
7. Ability to read gauges, pressure indicators, and temperature controls.
8. Maintain department repair parts stock and inventory.
9. Manages and maintains chemical levels in tanks based on data received from titrations, conductivity, pH concentration readings, parts appearance, and appearance of liquid in tanks.
10. Measures and maintain accurate records of pH, conductivity, and titration levels in tanks.
11. Adhere to all EPA, MoDNR and OSHA regulations.
12. Maintain wastewater compliance with city codes.
13. Comply with Environmental Management System per ISO-14001 requirements.
14. Responsible for all record keeping of pH findings, concentrations, quantity of chemicals used, and any unusual chemical-related findings.
15. May use sampling, testing, and measuring techniques, and perform quantitative and qualitative analyses to determine water pollution levels.
16. May periodically inspect equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance work.
17. May maintain records pertinent to special sampling projects performed in conjunction with governmental agencies and private institutions.
18. Work with Paint Engineer(s) on projects and required daily tasks.
19. Ability to read complicated drawings, mathematics, handbook formulas, and a variety of testing and measuring instruments.
20. Analyzes processes in respective areas and recommends improvements in quality and productivity.
21. Perform minor equipment repairs, verify proper operation of sensors, regulators, and control devices.
22. Responsible for cleaning and preventive maintenance activities including spare parts, tooling, etc. to ensure optimal operation of all systems (paint and pretreatment systems included).
23. Operate forklift, high lift and all maintenance department equipment.
24. Ensure timely startup and operation of the paint line to defined production levels; monitor equipment and setting to maintain proper operation of cleaning, pre-treatment, paint, cure, and wastewater treatment systems to meet production, safety, and housekeeping goals.
25. Verify proper operation of the paint line by performing required laboratory, visual, and physical inspection and monitoring activities of both process and product for paint systems.
26. Train and/or assist training other paint technicians to successfully operate and maintain the system in accordance with this job description and company policies.
27. Lead or assist in developing, implementing, and updating written operations procedures and inspection standards for all paint systems.
28. Record activities in CMMS software - Funnel Cloud. Complete correspondence, forms and reports using personal computer and required software.
29. Solve and/or assist in solving production, quality, health, safety, and environmental problems to ensure optimal production efficiency.
30. Communicate with maintenance manager and maintenance area/shift leaders and other plant personnel about maintenance and quality concerns, providing complete action plans and status reports as and when required.
31. Work with production and other departments on basic troubleshooting and corrections for everyday issues.
32. Attend daily pre-shift meetings and carry out assigned workloads as directed by shift/area leaders.
33. Conduct shifts carry over with other employees and communicate issues.
34. Control chemical inventory and ordering for all paint systems to ensure maximum productivity, quality, health, safety and environmental outcomes and minimum cost.
35. Control paint inventory and ordering of all paint stock as needed.
36. Produce timely, neat, and accurate reports documenting paint and wastewater treatment system performance.
37. Conduct equipment calibration and verification; maintain necessary documentation.
38. Safely use equipment and chemicals required for pre-treatment/paint testing.
39. Encourage safety and good housekeeping practices and lead by example, including wearing specified personal protective equipment.
40. Attend training as required.
41. Operating computer and software is necessary to monitor system parameters.
42. Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communication. and Fair Treatment.
43. To work in a safe, quality-minded and productive manner with a sense of urgency to achieve maintenance deadlines and to attain production priorities as scheduled.

1. Attain wastewater treatment certification within 12 months of position start.
2. Hazardous Waste Training Level 1; DOT Hazmat Training.
3. Licensed forklift operator.
4. Confined space training.

Education and/or Experience:
5. High School diploma/GED
6. Associate's degree in Skill Trades field preferred.
7. Experience with industrial mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
8. Competence with gas, arc, MIG, and TIG welding.
9. On the job training with other Paint Technicians.
10. Thorough knowledge of the spray equipment, process, and chemicals must be demonstrated either through job performance or through vendor training programs and appropriate post-high school training.
11. Experience with cathodic electrodeposition coatings and wastewater treatment for cathodic electrodeposition coatings preferred.
12. Spill Team member.
13. Attending Magna required wastewater training.
14. Attend any supplier training, such as zinc phosphate training and electro/powder coat training.

Physical Demands:
1. The physical demands require the paint technician to regularly move about the facility and maintain the paint system without fail. The paint technician must be able to move drums of chemicals and operate heavy-duty floor cleaning equipment. The technician must be able to stand for a prolonged period and be able to climb and lift to 50 pounds on a frequent and repetitive basis.
2. Move 700-pound drums with a drum cart.
3. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
4. Will occasionally work at heights of up to 40 feet and in confined spaces.
