Job description

Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: "Protecting Water. Protecting People." We are seeking a Coating Specialist (Industrial Painter) - 2nd Shift to partner with our experienced production team in this environmentally focused industry.
A Coating Specialist (Industrial Painter) - 2nd Shift at Smith and Loveless is responsible for prep, spray paint, and foam insulate miscellaneous parts and products, mostly steel components in a factory setting.
This is a second shift position, if hired, the ideal candidate will work 4:00 pm to 12:30 am with a dinner period. Also, must be able to train on day shift for a short period after being hired, before transferring to second shift.

Job duties
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations and keeps work area clean and orderly.
  • Works from verbal instructions, factory orders, and established practices.
  • Cleans material with solvent cleaner, etching solution or paint stripping caustic.
  • Moves material with hoists or wagon.
  • Masks off area not to be painted or to be painted a different color.
  • Prepares paint and thins to correct consistency and temperature.
  • Strains paint before using.
  • Cleans, repairs and adjusts guns and pots.
  • Moves material and positions for painting.
  • Touches up with brush or gun as required.
  • Occasionally uses stencils.
  • Does some maintenance painting from ground ladder or scaffold.
  • Reports abnormal conditions of equipment to supervisor.
  • Prepares miscellaneous parts and products for foaming by masking off and covering areas to be foamed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Second Shift Supervisor.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.

Skills/Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Previous commercial painting experience preferred.
  • Ability to read work orders.
  • Read and understand units of measurement.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Must be able to perform simple, repetitive tasks.
  • Experience operating forklift, electric hoist, spray gun, mixing equipment, and various small tools.
