Padi refers to rice plants, particularly in the context of wet rice cultivation, or to workers who cultivate rice in paddy fields. In many Southeast Asian countries, 'padi' is the term used for rice before it is harvested and milled. Padi farmers are responsible for planting, tending, and harvesting rice crops, often working in flooded fields known as paddies. Their work is essential for the production of one of the world's staple foods.

PADI Divemasters often encounter challenges such as managing diverse skill levels within a group, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and adapting to changing underwater conditions. Effective communication, thorough pre-dive briefings, and maintaining a calm, approachable demeanor help address these challenges. Building strong rapport with divers and staying vigilant during dives ensures both safety and enjoyment, and continuous learning through PADI workshops can further enhance your leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor, you need comprehensive diving knowledge, strong swimming skills, and instructor-level PADI certification. Familiarity with scuba gear, dive computers, and safety and training protocols is essential. Job description

Salary: $74,300.00 Annually
Location : 1 Bungtown Road, Cold Spring Harbor- Main Campus
Job Type: Full Time
Job Number: 2152
Process Level: Scientific Laboratory
Department: L. Zhang Laboratory
Opening Date: 05/18/2026
Position Description
Dr. Lingbo Zhang's Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory focuses on both basic science and translational medicine of hematologic malignancies. The research of the Lab centers on normal and malignant stem and progenitor cells in the hematopoietic system and decodes the role of metabolites, including micronutrients and neurotransmitters, in the tumor microenvironment and their genetic effectors in regulating hematologic malignancies.
There are two fully funded postdoctoral fellowships available to investigate the roles of these critical metabolites and their genetic effectors in hematopoietic malignancies and develop novel therapeutic strategies.
Position Responsibilities
The Lab utilizes a combination of CRISPR/Cas functional genomics and metabolomics as well as optogenetics and fiber photometry approaches to systematically uncover the critical metabolites and their genetic effectors, including receptors and metabolic enzymes, to reveal mechanistic insights of and identify key drug targets for hematologic malignancies. The ultimate goal is to understand how environmental signals such as diets and nervous system activities modulate blood cell development and cancers. Based on these basic mechanistic insights, the Lab is building innovative therapeutics to treat hematopoietic malignancies that are currently without effective therapeutic options.
Position Requirements
Education: Applicants should hold a PhD in biomedical sciences
Experience/Skills: Ideal candidates should have strong research backgrounds in molecular and cellular biology, animal model and cancer research, and experiences with flow cytometry and metabolomics analysis or optogenetics and fiber photometry..
Supplemental Information
How to Apply:
For immediate consideration please apply to the opening found here: Position ID: 2152. Interested candidates should send cover letter, CV, research statement (including research accomplished during PhD and research expected to work on during postdoctoral fellowship), and 3 contacts for reference to lbzhang@cshl.edu.
