Padi refers to rice plants, particularly in the context of wet rice cultivation, or to workers who cultivate rice in paddy fields. In many Southeast Asian countries, 'padi' is the term used for rice before it is harvested and milled. Padi farmers are responsible for planting, tending, and harvesting rice crops, often working in flooded fields known as paddies. Their work is essential for the production of one of the world's staple foods.
