Job description

Description:

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

At Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), elite performance begins with precision — and the BMW GTP program is no exception. We are developing a pipeline of experienced race mechanics for future roles within our IMSA program. If you’re a skilled technician interested in joining one of North America’s premier hybrid prototype teams, this is your invitation to be considered as new positions become available.

By joining our IMSA Mechanic Talent Pool, we will evaluate your profile for upcoming opportunities as we expand, evolve, and enhance our GTP program.

Requirements:

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

When opportunities arise, our mechanics take on essential responsibilities that include:

  • Assemble, maintain, and prepare GTP race cars and backup vehicles to RLL and manufacturer standards.
  • Install engines, gearboxes, suspension systems, fuel and cooling systems, and related components.
  • Support chassis setup and adjustments according to build/setup sheets and team engineering guidance.
  • Ensure a safety-first approach across all shop and trackside tasks.
  • Travel to IMSA races, tests, and team events (25+ per year).
  • Load/unload equipment and assist with garage and paddock setup and teardown.
  • Use the appropriate mechanical and measurement tools (calipers, Zyglo, Magnaflux, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean, professional workspace and organized tool inventory.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

We're looking for mechanics who offer:

  • Over 5 years of professional race mechanic experience (IMSA, WEC, IndyCar, or similar)
  • Preferred hands-on experience with hybrid or GTP-class systems
  • Proficient in vehicle setup and race car systems (engine, gearbox, drivetrain, cooling, fuel, suspension)
  • Competent with chassis build sheets, setup pads, and interpretation of rule books
  • Familiar with hand and shop tools, including mill, lathe, press, drill press, welder, etc.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
  • Willingness and availability for extensive travel

THE RLL EDGE - WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

At RLL, every car we send to the track reflects the passion and precision of the people behind it.

  • Manufacturer Partnership: Participate in a factory-supported GTP initiative with direct collaboration alongside BMW engineers.
  • Human Performance Center: Gain access to training, recovery, on-site wellness resources, and health specialists.
  • Culture of Excellence: We prioritize repeatable, high-quality processes — and the people who manage them.
  • Unity in Execution: You will be integrated across the engineering, performance, and operations teams within a no-ego, high-accountability environment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS - AND WHY IT MATTERS HERE

This isn’t just a paycheck — it’s a career in elite motorsports. Here's what distinguishes this opportunity:

  • Competitive salary where experience and role responsibilities are taken in to account
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • HSA with employer contributions
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Access to high-performance training
  • Team travel perks, exclusive access, and apparel

BE IN THE RUNNING

We continuously review our talent pool applicants, reaching out to qualified individuals first as roles become available—whether it’s due to exciting expansion, internal movement, or new program needs. We’re committed to ensuring the best opportunities are offered to our talented candidates.
