A PACS RIS job involves managing medical imaging systems in healthcare settings. PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System) are used to store, retrieve, and distribute medical images and patient data. Professionals in this role ensure system functionality, troubleshoot technical issues, and support radiologists and healthcare staff. They may also assist with system integration, data security, and workflow optimization to improve efficiency in medical imaging departments.
To excel in a PACS/RIS role, candidates need a comprehensive understanding of medical imaging informatics, information technology, and clinical workflow, often supported by a degree in health informatics, IT, or radiologic technology. Proficiency with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), and related DICOM and HL7 standards, along with vendor-specific certifications, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help professionals effectively support clinicians and resolve technical or workflow issues. These skills are essential because they ensure the reliability and efficiency of radiology imaging systems, ultimately supporting patient care and clinical operations.
PACS/RIS professionals are responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting radiology imaging systems to ensure seamless workflow and data integrity. Their day-to-day tasks often include collaborating with radiologists and technologists to support image access, resolving user issues, performing system updates, and monitoring system performance. They may also facilitate user training, implement new features or integrations, and help ensure compliance with data security and privacy standards. The role requires both technical expertise and excellent collaborative skills to ensure imaging services run smoothly and efficiently.

PACS Administrator II / III
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Location: Coachella Valley, CA
Schedule: Primarily Onsite — 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day Remote
Hours: 40 Hours/Week, Day Shift
Position Overview
We are seeking a PACS Administrator II or III to support enterprise imaging systems across radiology and cardiology. This position will support a modern, high-volume imaging environment that recently transitioned to a cloud-based Philips PACS platform and continues to evolve through new modalities, integrations, workflow improvements, and AI-enabled imaging technologies.
This opportunity can be filled at the PACS Administrator II or PACS Administrator III level, depending on the selected candidate’s experience, technical depth, certifications, and project leadership background.
The role combines hands-on PACS/RIS and Cardiology PACS (CPACS) administration, clinical workflow support, troubleshooting, modality connectivity, vendor coordination, and project work. Level III candidates will take greater ownership of complex system architecture, technical administration, upgrades, project leadership, and mentoring.
The position is primarily onsite. The first 90 days are expected to be fully onsite, with the opportunity to transition into the team’s current schedule of approximately four days onsite and one remote day per week over time.
Key Responsibilities
Additional Level III Responsibilities
PACS Administrator III candidates will also be expected to:
The Level II position is expected to spend more time on day-to-day support and optimization, with approximately 30% of time potentially dedicated to projects, while Level III responsibilities may approach a 50/50 balance between operational support and project/complexity work.
Qualifications
Candidates may qualify at either the Level II or Level III depending on experience and credentials.
PACS Administrator II
Candidates may come from either a technical background—such as systems administration, servers, storage, or infrastructure that progressed into imaging—or a clinical imaging background that transitioned into PACS/technology administration.
PACS Administrator III
Preferred Qualifications
Depending on level, preferred experience includes:
Relevant certifications may include DICOM, Epic, Radiant, Cupid, CIIP, CPAS, CPSA, Security+, Network+, HL7, Project+, PMP, or applicable clinical/imaging credentials.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where priorities and technologies continue to evolve. Enterprise imaging is a business-critical area, and the position requires someone who can balance technical problem-solving with responsive customer service.
Candidates should be able to work effectively with radiologists, cardiologists, technologists, vendors, IT teams, and operational stakeholders; manage competing priorities; adapt as requirements change; and take initiative in identifying and resolving issues.
The role is particularly well suited for someone interested in the continued evolution of enterprise imaging, including cloud PACS, new imaging modalities, workflow automation, system integrations, and AI-enabled imaging technologies.
