Job description

PACS/RIS Coordinator's role is key in a radiology department, responsible for managing both the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and the Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure smooth, secure, and efficient medical imaging operations.
Core Responsibilities
PACS/RIS duties include
  • System Management & Maintenance: Ensure PACS and RIS are running smoothly, perform backups, apply updates, and optimize performance.
  • User Management & Training: Create, maintain, and secure user accounts; train staff on system use.
  • Data Security & Compliance: Protect patient data, comply with HIPAA, and manage archiving/storage.
  • Interface Management: Maintain integration between PACS/RIS and other hospital systems (EMR, LIS, etc.).
  • Workflow Support: Troubleshoot image routing issues, resolve system downtime, and ensure timely availability of images.
  • Configuration & Optimization: Adjust system settings, storage allocation, and network configurations for efficiency.
  • Create, maintain, and manage user accounts.
  • Train radiologists, technologists, and other staff on PACS/RIS use.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to end-users
  • Perform and report on quality control for imaging equipment.
  • Maintain QA/QC programs in line with departmental protocols

Skills & Background
  • Experience in radiology, imaging, or IT.
  • Knowledge of PACS/RIS software and integration protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with healthcare IT standards and compliance requirements.
  • Monitoring PACS servers for downtime.
  • Resolving image transfer issues.
  • Coordinating system upgrades with IT.
  • Perform system backups, apply updates/patches, and manage upgrades.
  • Configure and optimize systems to meet departmental workflow needs, including storage allocation, network settings, and data compression

Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Radiology Technologists
  • Experience: 2+ years in PACS/RIS environment, and/or 2 + years as a qualified radiographer
  • Certifications: PACS/RIS Administration certification preferred.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills in imaging systems, DICOM standards, and radiology workflow; excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
