Packaging Development Engineer
Location: Hoboken, NJ
Industry: Food & Beverage (FMCG/CPG)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3-4 days onsite)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Packaging Development Engineer to support packaging development initiatives for a leading Food & Beverage organization. This role will be responsible for managing packaging development projects from concept through commercialization, collaborating with suppliers, conducting packaging trials, and ensuring packaging meets technical, functional, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop packaging briefs and communicate technical requirements to existing packaging suppliers.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new packaging suppliers.
  • Coordinate packaging trials, including preparation of trial materials and documentation.
  • Review and maintain packaging material technical specifications.
  • Finalize and validate packaging specifications with suppliers.
  • Conduct packaging assessments, benchmarking, and competitive evaluations.
  • Assess packaging for fit-for-use, performance, and functionality.
  • Execute packaging action standard tests and document results.
  • Develop and maintain packaging specifications and action standards.
  • Create and maintain Packaging Attribute Management (PAM) specifications within the PLM system.
  • Design pallet configurations and pallet patterns based on finalized case dimensions.
  • Utilize palletization software such as TOPS (preferred) or CAPE.

Qualifications
  • Diploma, Bachelor's, or Postgraduate degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
  • 1- 5 years of packaging development experience within the Food & Beverage, FMCG, CPG, or related manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, specifications, testing, and supplier management.
  • Experience coordinating packaging development projects and commercialization activities.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and packaging specification management.
  • Experience with palletization software such as TOPS or CAPE is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluent in English with the ability to communicate effectively in a global business environment.
