Job description

Packaging Quality Engineer
Work Specifications - Responsibilities:
  • Develop internal specifications around new packaging formats
  • Manage vendor-supplied packaging specifications
  • Manage vendor-supplied Regulatory material documents and certifications
  • Troubleshoot packaging material problems with run-ability, quality, etc.
  • Develop all pallet patterns for all products and incorporate into individual product specifications
  • Corrugate/Packaging review and approvals
    • Drawings review and revisions
    • Review and test samples
    • Final approvals
  • Assist current SPC weight control database
  • Establish working tare weights for all packaging formats to be used in Production SPC models
  • Communicate with all vendor contacts regarding packaging material issues; submit material claims to appropriate vendors
  • Manage Package Holds database
  • Support plant quality improvement initiatives, such as Aseptic Quality Improvement and packaging material defect RCA and CAPA
  • Entry of claims into database, sending samples to suppliers. Tracking of claims. Direct involvement with vendor representatives in negotiating claims. New customer spec entry into packaging file on LAN. Removal of obsolete specs.
  • Work with Production and Warehouse to place defective or damaged package components on QCHOLD in Protean. Also releases as they apply.
  • Other Project Initiatives as developed.

Equipment/Training Knowledge:
  • Packaging or Materials science knowledge
  • Six Sigma training (Green Belt is a significant plus)
  • TQM or equivalent experience with concepts
  • Excellent analytical skills and understanding of troubleshooting methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems, databases and spreadsheets
  • Strong Knowledge of Statistical Process Control

Education/Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline
  • Experience in food manufacturing/packaging environment or applicable experience gained in Packaging Engineering/Manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Experience in food manufacturing or Packaging Engineering/Manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate, apply, and integrate approaches such as statistical process control to operations within the facility
  • Ability to lead cross-functional groups

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
