About this opportunity

The Business Development Manager is responsible for productive working relationships with selected Mortgage Brokerage firms in all of our operating markets.

Reporting to the Director, Mobile & Broker Services, the Business Development Manager ensures that Meridian has the Mortgage Broker connections required to surpass our annual origination targets and acts as the primary steward and supporter of our Underwriting team.

The incumbent will also maintain a deep awareness of all broker lender product service offerings, rates and commission structures and advises of developing trends in broker landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the “Go to” contact for all of our selected agents, brokers and Meridian Branch and corporate partners
  • Administer on-boarding discipline and review for all new broker firms ensuring that Meridian has the audit information needed to understand who we do business with.
  • Conduct education / information sessions with broker firms to ensure full understanding of our niche products & processes.
  • Leverage your solid understanding of the credit granting discipline to educate and assist our selected Brokers in structuring deals to meet Meridian risk appetite.
  • Ensures funding ratios are communicated on a quarterly basis to our Top Broker firms and implements remedial action steps for those firms not meeting minimum threshold.
  • Conduct regular debrief meetings with the underwriting unit to ensure their feedback is incorporated into sales process and any issues addressed immediately
  • Support Meridians new branch locations by partnering with Branch Managers to harness and build upon their connections in the Mortgage broker space.
  • Participate in select industry functions to increase exposure and grow networking connections.
  • Work has high level of travel across Ontario and at times requires extended hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Candidates with established relationships in the Ontario mortgage broker community and a demonstrated ability to proactively build and grow broker partnerships will be strongly preferred. 
 
  • Excellent selling, influencing, presentation and negotiation skills and ability to build and earn the confidence of all business partners (internal and external).
  • Creative and innovative in maintaining sales and attracting new business.
  • Strong time management, organizational, interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Deep background in all aspects of mortgage origination/application.
  • Self-motivator with the initiative to work independently.
  • Team player and internally motivated to be the best.
  • Strong understanding of Excel (pivot tables)

Education, Work Experience, and Professional Designations/Certifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary education program is required or equivalent experience. An undergraduate degree or community college degree in finance is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience and demonstrated success in managing mortgage brokers or brokerage firms
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the region.
  • Familiarity with Loan origination systems (LOS) (preferably Trellis or similar) and digital process improvement.

This role represents an existing vacancy. Internal candidates are being considered as part of our standard process. 

Salary Range: CAD $59,800.00 to $89,800.00 annually.
Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Regional Coverage: Northern Ontario (Barrie and area)
