The responsibility of the Designer is to create conceptual layouts and working construction drawings for a variety of MTY brands. The working drawings prepared will convey each of the specific Brand's standards while adhering to design guidelines and limitations set forth by the Landlords Design Criteria. Types of locations will vary and may include, but not limited to, including traditional street front, food court, non-traditional (kiosk, Hospital, College/University, etc…), combo/twin concepts.

This individual must be well organized and have the ability to work on changing timelines and prioritize projects that have the greatest impact on deadlines. This position will report directly to the Director, Design and Construction in addition to working with each Brand Leaders and their respective teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews site or base building plans to determine the design suitability for each brand(s) standards
  • Draw and sketch a variety of designs; including space planning, exterior elevations and placement for exterior signage
  • Presents conceptual and schematic design ideas to develop preliminary designs
  • Co-ordinates and reviews project requirements and proposals set forth by Landlord’s Design Criteria and/or by specific brand leaders
  • Coordinate with Engineers for the purpose of producing Permit/construction drawings
  • Creation of working drawings to ensure Company design standards are met
  • Communicate with General Contractors if site conditions vary from working drawings
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Determines equipment layouts, resolves when required with compilation of addendums
  • Reviews and approves shop drawings from vendors. Ie. millwork, signage & menu boards, walk-in units and graphics
  • Collaborates with Building Standards, suppliers, consultants and internal departments ie. Construction, Operations, Marketing
  • Responsible for tracking and coordinating project flow to ensure timelines set forth by Construction
  • If required, participate in meetings with Prime Consultants to monitor and maintain project progress
  • Limited travel will be expected, to verify site conditions, if required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and ensuring timelines are being met
  • Be able to work in fast-paced environment


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Interior Design or Architecture; or
  • Diploma or equivalency, Architectural Technologist


Experience:

  • 2+ years' experience in space planning, rendering, drafting and presentations
  • Proficient in AutoCAD - v.2012 and subsequent newer releases
  • Design experience in the food industry and understanding of QSR industry is preferred
  • Knowledge of National Building Code (NBC) and Quebec and Maritimes Building Code
  • Production of renderings (sketch-up V-ray, 3d max, autoCAD 3d, etc...) is required.
