Olson Kundig is a design practice founded on the idea that buildings can serve as a bridge between nature, culture, and people - and that inspiring surroundings can positively impact lives. Our work spans the globe, from huts to high-rises, private homes to civic and cultural institutions, museums, places of worship, and urban design. 
The Opportunity
We maintain a rotating cohort of interns with openings throughout the year. These paid, six-month internships are open to students and recent graduates from around the world. The Interior Design Internship program is rooted in mentorship and offers immersive exposure to the full spectrum of the design practice. 

We’re looking for an Interior Design Intern who is curious, resourceful, and highly organized - with a strong commitment to design excellence and a collaborative spirit. If you thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment and enjoy contributing to meaningful work, we’d love to hear from you. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Design Process: 
    • Models and renders design concepts in support of conceptual design development.
    • Gathers graphics, material boards and interior design information into packages for client and design team presentations . 
  • Collaboration and Communication:   
    • Contributes ideas, solutions, and deliverables in team and project environments. 
    • May work closely with vendors and senior team members to prepare design, research materials and FFE options, space plan, and documentation support on projects.
  • Administration and Documentation:   
    • Prepares interior construction documents including custom furniture design and specification while working closely with senior team members.
  • Additional duties and projects: 
    • Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned or necessary. 

Qualifications 

  • Required: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or current enrollment in a Bachelor’s program (preferably CIDA-accredited). 
    • Portfolio demonstrating design ability and technical skills. 
    • Understanding of color theory, material basics, ergonomics, basic furniture design, and sourcing of FFE (furniture, fixtures, and equipment). 
    • ​​Proficiency in producing visually compelling presentations, interior drawings, and renderings​ 
    • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Revit,  MS Office Suite
    • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in interior design. 
    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (international candidates must secure appropriate work authorization). 
  • Nice to Have: 
    • Prior internship or professional experience in an interior design or architectural firm.
    • Interest in Olson Kundig’s design philosophy and project types.

For this Interior Design Intern position, the hourly wage is $26.50. This rate is fixed and reflects the compensation offered for this role in Seattle, WA. 

Interns are also eligible for:

Final compensation decisions are based on the candidate’s education, experience, and alignment with the role, while also considering internal equity and external market factors.
