What is a packaging design internship?

A Packaging Design Internship is a temporary role where interns assist in creating and developing packaging designs for products. Interns typically work with design teams to conceptualize, prototype, and refine packaging that aligns with branding and functional requirements. They may use design software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop and collaborate with marketing and production teams. This internship helps build practical experience in graphic design, material selection, and sustainability considerations in packaging.

What kinds of projects and responsibilities can I expect as a packaging design intern?

As a Packaging Design Intern, you will typically support senior designers in creating and refining packaging concepts, developing dielines, choosing materials, and preparing files for print production. You may participate in brainstorming sessions, conduct research on packaging trends and sustainability, and assist with mockups and prototype testing. Interns often have opportunities to present their ideas to cross-functional teams and receive feedback from design, marketing, and production departments. This hands-on involvement helps you understand the end-to-end packaging development process and build a strong professional portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a packaging design internship, and why are they important?

A strong foundation in graphic design, creativity, and attention to detail—often supported by coursework in design or related fields—is essential for a Packaging Design Internship. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and an understanding of print production processes are typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork skills, and the ability to receive and implement feedback help interns collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams. These qualifications ensure interns can create appealing packaging concepts that meet branding requirements and practical constraints.

Collaborative Design. Technical Excellence. Community Impact.

Are you an aspiring or junior engineer looking to build a versatile foundation in civil design? Thompson & Litton, an established multi-disciplined firm serving both public and private sector clientele, has an immediate opening for a Civil Design Engineer. Whether you are a recent graduate eager to learn or a professional looking to further develop your design skills, we want a self-motivated individual to grow within our dynamic team.

While we are open to any engineering branch focus, candidates with exposure to or an interest in water and wastewater design are highly encouraged to apply.

The Role: From Concept to Completion

As part of our civil engineering group, you will gain hands-on exposure to diverse engineering projects, working closely with senior staff to take designs from concept to reality. You will:

  • Infrastructure & Site Design: Assist in the design and layout of municipal infrastructure, utility networks, or site developments based on project and client needs.
  • Engineer Utility & Water Systems: Support the design of critical public works infrastructure, including water distribution networks, sanitary sewer systems, water/wastewater treatment components, and pump stations.
  • Manage Stormwater & Drainage: Assist with grading design, hydraulic calculations, and stormwater management systems (conveyance, storage, and quality controls).
  • Conduct Research & Due Diligence: Perform site visits and review local, state, and federal regulations, municipal zoning, and development ordinances to ensure project compliance.
  • Support Project Delivery: Perform supporting technical calculations, prepare specifications, develop construction cost estimates, and assist with engineering proposals.

What You Bring

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Licensure: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation, or on track to obtain it shortly after hire, is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a strong plus. Any academic coursework, internships, or prior work experience in water and wastewater systems is highly advantageous.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and an eagerness to learn.
