Job description

The Packaging Assistant will assist in coordinating packaging operations across sheds, managing inventory levels, and support the accuracy of purchasing and accounting processes. This role will collaborate closely with internal teams- Operations, Sales, Accounting, and Sustainability- along with growers and vendors. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a proactive approach to problem solving in a fast-paced agricultural environment. Ideal candidates must be hard-working, organized, and eager to learn. This is an in-person role either based in our Oxnard or Santa Monica, California office.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with oversight of inventory control, management, and accountability for all supplies
  • Understand the differences in procedures between growers, or between domestic and international operations/orders and the ability to assist in organization and management of inventory and vendor relationships accordingly.
  • Assist in the procurement of packaging materials for a wide variety of products and management of the inventory and logistics of all packaging materials, all sheds applicable, and shipping related to supplies at the cooler level.
  • Ensure applicable portals/databases are up to date related to pallets, traceability, sustainability, etc.
  • Assist in working with accounting to ensure they have necessary documentation to ensure proper payment to vendors, and proper material issuing to growers, and ensure that accurate inventory values are accounted for and maintained.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining forecasts and pack plans, with sales and operations, and relaying information in a timely manner to vendors
  • Support Sustainability department/personnel on data collection, projects, initiatives, etc.
  • Look for opportunities to create efficient and sustainable processes by cutting waste/improving workflows
  • Assist in projects and initiatives such as PTI programs, new product samples, packaging trials, clamshell and tray level traceability initiatives, etc.
  • Troubleshoot issues and collaborate to determine the best solution
  • Analysis of data, mining of data- both structured and unstructured for insights, visualization and reporting of key findings for use in decision making
  • Utilization of resources to generate effective solutions based on available information.
  • May cross-train to perform other duties.
  • Support with other operational tasks and ad-hoc projects, as needed.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business, Food Science, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 1โ€“2 years of experience in the fresh produce industry or a similar manufacturing, agriculture, or food production environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet overlapping deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a cross-functional operations team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint); experience with ERP systems and business intelligence (BI) tools preferred.
  • Ability to balance routine daily responsibilities with longer-term projects requiring sustained organization and attention to detail.


Travel Requirements:

This role requires travel to packaging facilities and supplier/vendor locations throughout California on a regular basis. Occasional domestic and international travel may also be required.


Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This role may require up to approximately 50% of time spent in agricultural field environments, with the remaining time performed in an office or remote setting, depending on business needs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 30 lbs.


Compensation Range:

The compensation range for this position is $29.00 to $34.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and skills.
