Job description

Vice President of Operations | President Succession Opportunity

Location: Montana (Paid relocation available)

Travel: Montana & Wyoming

Company: Confidential

Advancement: Expected progression to President within 6–12 months

Compensation: Competitive executive compensation, based on experience

Position Summary

We are conducting a confidential search for a Vice President of Operations to join a growing electrical contractor specializing in low-voltage construction across Montana and Wyoming.

This is a succession-focused executive hire. The individual selected for this position is expected to transition into the President role within approximately 6–12 months, based on performance and successful integration into the business.

The initial focus will be learning the organization, building credibility with employees and customers, and taking ownership of operational performance. The VP will work closely with existing leadership before assuming broader responsibility for the company.

This opportunity requires a leader who understands union electrical construction, low-voltage operations, and the realities of building and retaining teams in rural markets.

What You'll Lead

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across electrical and low-voltage projects.
  • Lead project management, field leadership, manpower planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Manage operations within a union construction environment.
  • Build relationships with field employees and leaders working across rural and geographically dispersed locations.
  • Develop strategies for recruiting, retaining, developing, and deploying talent in rural markets.
  • Drive accountability for safety, quality, productivity, schedule, and profitability.
  • Monitor project financials, forecasting, labor productivity, and operational KPIs.
  • Strengthen communication and accountability between field and office teams.
  • Build scalable operational processes that support continued growth.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers, labor partners, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with current executive leadership during the transition period.
  • Prepare to assume overall leadership of the organization as President within 6–12 months.
  • Travel regularly throughout Montana and Wyoming.

Required Qualifications

  • Senior operations leadership experience within electrical construction or contracting.
  • Union construction experience required.
  • Low-voltage construction experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, attract, or retain employees in rural, remote, or difficult-to-staff markets.
  • Strong understanding of field operations, workforce planning, project execution, and construction financials.
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed teams.
  • Executive-level business judgment with the ability to move between strategic planning and hands-on operational leadership.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with field employees, customers, labor partners, and leadership.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Montana and Wyoming.

The Leadership Opportunity

This role is being hired with a clear path forward.

The successful candidate will initially join as Vice President of Operations, gain a deep understanding of the company's people, customers, projects, culture, and financial performance, and progressively assume greater leadership responsibility.

The intended progression is into the President position within 6–12 months.

The right person will inherit more than an executive title. They will have the opportunity to lead and grow an established electrical business while shaping its next chapter.
