Hiring Salary: $21.69/Hourly

The Researcher Supervisor 3 performs and supervises research projects in the fields of vascular biology and translational nanotherapeutics being conducted within the Department of Surgery. This position supervises Surgical Fellows and Residents, Research Associates, Research Specialists, and Undergraduate students in various laboratory-related activities. This position functions as the laboratory manager with extensive administrative and budgetary duties.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences or related experience. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of relevant lab experience; OR Master's Degree and one (1) year of relevant lab experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of nanoparticle drug development principles and techniques, and standard cellular and molecular biology principles and techniques.
  • Skills and ability to implement knowledge of biological assays effectively in standard and advanced laboratory practice. 
  • Ability to assist in and independently perform laboratory animal activities (using small animal models for both survival and non-survival procedures. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement laboratory compliance standards. 
  • Skills and ability to effectively supervise a research team and manage laboratory operations.

WORK SCHEDULE:  This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.

  1. Supervises Research Specialists in complex research experiments involving vascular biology and translation. 
  2. Trains and supervises students at all levels (i.e., undergraduate, graduate, and medical students) in basic science research.
  3. Aids the Principal Investigator in experimental design, proposal development, and manuscript preparation.
  4. performs complex research experiments in the fields of vascular biology and translational nanotherapeutic development independently.
  5. Utilizes advanced Molecular and Cellular Biology techniques. 
  6. Performs pre-clinical animal models of disease, including surgical anesthesia, non-survival, and major survival surgery techniques.
  7. Manages all laboratory purchasing accounts and serves as the Purchasing Agent for all consumables, supplies, and major equipment.
  8. Maintains service contracts and schedules/manages service of all laboratory equipment.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
