Description

POSITION OVERVIEW 

Get ready to sign some autographs... as Science Presenter, you are the star of the show!  If you've ever wanted to freeze an object instantaneously, blow up a gummy bear, or set yourself on fire, this is the job for you.  Your home base will be Eureka Theatre, our live science demonstration theater, where you'll excite, inform, and entertain audiences of all ages.  When you're not on stage, you'll be interacting with science center guests one-on-one beside an activity cart or roaming the floor with a meteorite in your pocket.  To young minds, you'll be the very embodiment of science, creating the spark that launches the next generation of discoveries! 


This position is responsible for presenting Live Science theater shows, demonstrations, and other programs to learners of all ages and backgrounds.  Science Presenters are expected to learn and comply with all chemical, fire, electrical, and cryogenic safety procedures while maintaining an orderly atmosphere.  Presenter must be able to work consistently in a variety of locations, including theaters, classrooms, outside, and on the gallery floors.  Effective communication skills, time management, commitment to guest experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering, and math are essential attributes for this position. 


Expected start date is July 24, 2026 or later. 
Work schedule is Friday-Monday, with additional hours available during the week as needed for coverage or events and rentals. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Learn, understand, and present 15-20-minute Live Science shows to audiences of all ages and learning backgrounds 
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to assist in delivering outstanding programs 
  • Supplement existing exhibits with engaging science demonstrations on gallery floors 
  • Handle fire, laboratory chemicals, high voltage equipment, and cryogenic chemicals while following all safety requirements 
  • Have basic knowledge of how to operate AV equipment such as sound systems, lighting, microphones, projectors, cameras, and computers 
  • Maintain knowledge of current museum exhibits and program content to convey exciting explanations to guests 
  • Anticipate guest needs and solve guest issues with a positive, courteous, and professional attitude 
  • Execute other duties deemed necessary by management based on specific show/program needs 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School diploma or Equivalent 
  • Must be comfortable handling fire, laboratory chemicals, high voltage equipment, and cryogenic chemicals. 
  • Prior teaching or presenting experience preferred  
  • Theater and/or improv training is a plus 
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, techniques, and standards 
  • Ability and desire to work with and inspire visitors of all ages and learning backgrounds 
  • Ability to learn and convey educational information with effective communication skills 
  • Ability to learn and comply with important safety standards 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and make customer service decisions confidently and efficiently 
  • Ability to work in both fast-paced and calm environments 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple personality types 
  • Ability to work independently and with a team 
  • Show enthusiasm and curiosity about science education and share that passion with others 
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hours events 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS  

  • Must be at least 18 years old? 
  • First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification preferred? 
  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.? 
  • Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50 pounds assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.? 
  • Some repetitive motion is involved.?
