Responsibilities

The responsibility of this role is to ensure consistent quality of production and plant sanitation by developing and enforcing above-standard manufacturing practices.

  • Responsible for GMP and HACCP are consistent with company policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance.
  • Performs as a HACCP leader to ensure the HACCP program and pre-requisite programs are up-to-date and fully implemented in production.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the plant QA team towards training, coaching and developing of QA technicians. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying training needs, providing opportunity for personal growth, assessing performance goals, assuring adherence to company policies and practices, managing absenteeism and assisting in disciplining should coaching be ineffective.
  • Provide leadership during audits. Assist and lead as assigned by the QA Manager.
  • Maintain records of finished product specifications, SOPs, SSOPs, QA forms, etc.
  • Creates training materials to support GMP/HACCP/Sanitation programs at all levels of the company and provides routine employee training on quality, regulatory, and food safety principles and policies to ensure 100% completion.
  • Reviews plant issues, ensures problems are resolved, and follows up on customer/supplier complaints with corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • In conjunction with the Plant Operations, implements quality enhancement processes and procedures at the plant level to achieve process improvements and cost savings.
  • Supports third-party audits (GMP, Costco), customer and internal audit.
  • Manages direct reports of 2 QA Technicians and prepares recommendations for team development.
  • Oversees facility sanitation through monitoring of environmental swabbing and communicates with the Sanitation team on any identified cleaning issues.
  • Reviews internal/external testing results for the raw material, finished products, etc.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a college diploma in Food Science, or a related field. Preferred 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance.
  • Required to have GFSI experience (SQF is an asset), PCQI certification
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Internal auditing skills preferred.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate up and down the organization.
  • Previous leadership experience, preferably in a Food Processing facility.
  • Disciplined, motivated and accountable for all Quality Assurance matters.
