Position Overview
The Motor Grader Operator is a skilled position responsible for operating motor graders to fine-grade roads, job sites, and aggregate surfaces while maintaining quality standards and ensuring safe, efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Operate motor graders to perform rough and finish grading on roadway, site development, and aggregate projects.
  • Establish and maintain proper grades, slopes, drainage, and roadway alignment according to project specifications.
  • Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and construction layouts.
  • Conduct pre- and post-operation equipment inspections and complete required documentation.
  • Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Perform routine servicing and minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Work closely with supervisors, survey crews, truck drivers, and other equipment operators to achieve production goals.
  • Maintain safe work practices and comply with all company, OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with general construction and site tasks as needed.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience operating motor graders in construction, road building, paving, or aggregate operations preferred.
  • Ability to read grade stakes, project plans, and construction specifications.
  • Knowledge of grading techniques, drainage principles, and equipment operation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
