Job description

McCody is seeking a reliable and skilled Finish Grader Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate is a skilled heavy equipment operator who specializes in using motor graders to create smooth, precise surfaces on roads, parking lots, and yards. Accurate evaluation of site conditions and mechanical aptitude are additional necessary skills to perform the primary functions of this role. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner and performing and assisting with equipment maintenance and repairs.
Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm
  • Flexibility to work extended hours & weekends due to seasonal weather and demand
  • Full-Time+

Essential Roles, Responsibilities, and Duties:
The basic responsibilities of the Finish Grader Operator includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • Operate and monitor heavy equipment, including but may not be limited to motor graders, front-end loaders, excavators, dozers, skidsteers, forklifts, utility vehicles, and more.
  • Adjust equipment settings and controls to achieve optimal production and quality targets.
  • Perform rough and fine grade finishing to spread materials to the exact design specifications, thickness, and slope required.
  • Maintain unpaved (gravel/dirt) roads by blading, shaping the proper crown, and filling in rough sections.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks with documentation to ensure equipment reliability and performance. Assist mechanics with larger repairs and maintenance.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or operational issues, taking corrective action as necessary to minimize disruptions to production.
  • Maintain detailed logs of completed maintenance and repair work.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of potential hazards on-site and report any safety concerns to supervisors immediately.
  • Assist with site cleanup and maintenance activities, including clearing debris, maintaining roads, and ensuring that work areas are clean and organized.
  • Ensure strict adherence to MSHA or OSHA Safety Standards, including the use of PPE, fall protection, and maintaining secure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when performing repairs.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Technician on dust control, snow and ice removal and mitigation, and other grounds and parking upkeep tasks.

Requirements:
  • 18+ years of age
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Pre-employment drug test and background check required

Perk Qualifications (not required):
  • Valid Class B CDL
  • MSHA Surface Mine Certification
  • Familiarity with GPS and laser grading equipment
  • Basic construction knowledge
  • Basic mechanic knowledge

  • Basic documentation skills using phone app and paper
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, user instructions, procedure, operating and maintenance manuals, and engineering specifications
  • Perform mathematical functions pertaining to volumes, quantities, etc.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute ratio and percent
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in daily productions
