The Jamaica YMCA is seeking an overnight Mechanic who, underthe direct supervision of the Building Engineer, will beresponsible for the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentrysystems at the Jamaica YMCA, as well as its off sites, as needed. The Mechanic will perform building repair, maintenance,and cosmetic upgrades as directed. They willalso clean and maintain the inside and outside of the YMCA and its off sites; including but notlimited to residential floor, sidewalks, hallways, stairways, roof tops,bathrooms, shower rooms, offices, and all program areas. The Mechanic will supervise andassign tasks for all overnight Y staff and outsource staff. 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Service as the overnight FLSD, or as needed.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and swimming pool equipment (where applicable).
  • Performs building repair work as directed by branch leadership.
  • Cleans all bathrooms, classrooms, locker rooms, Fitness Center, Free Weight Room, offices, Gymnasium, and in all other spaces within the branch including residential floors.
  • Stores all deliveries, moves furniture, sets up and breaks down rooms, and removes snow.
  • Strip and wax floors, also shampoo rugs as needed.
  • Informs the Building Engineer of all building issues and generate incident reports.
  • Responsible for painting when assigned.
  • Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD and ECB Departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of maintenance and building construction work experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Knowledgeof the use of mechanical, test equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use (MSOS).
  • Maintain FDNY, DOB, and DOH logbooks as required.
  • Must be able to maintain pool, including reading, repair, and maintenance.
  • Fire Safety Director certification or pass Fire Safety Director Certification within one (1) year of attaining position.
  • Obtain Building Certification within three (3) months of attaining position.
  • Must obtain S12, S13 and C42 Pool Certification within one (1) year of attaining position (subject to mid-year and annual review).
  • Must be on call 24/7 when Property Manager is not on-site.
  • Must be able to work overnight and flexible hours as needed.
