Job description

Biology/Life Science Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track)

Highland Community College, located in the scenic northwest corner of Illinois, is seeking a Biology/Life Science Instructor for a full-time, tenure-track position starting Fall 2026. This role involves engaging students in the biological sciences, contributing to the academic mission of the college, and fostering student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 15 contact hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, covering courses such as, human anatomy and physiology, cell and molecular biology, ecology, microbiology, evolution, and other biology or life science courses as needed.
  • Contribute to program and course development.
  • Participate in committee work and division meetings.
  • Continue professional growth by attending conferences and seminars, participating in professional organizations, and/or taking additional course work in major and related subjects.

What Were Looking For

Education and Experience:

  • A Masters degree (or higher) in Biology or a related life science field (e.g., botany, zoology, cell or molecular biology).
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in biology or life science may be required based on the applicants coursework and degree.
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level is preferred but not required.
