Job description

Community Youth Services is actively seeking Overnight Counselors for the Young Adult Shelter located in Olympia. This role is crucial in providing a secure and supportive environment for young adults aged 18-21 at Rosie's Place Drop-In & Resource Center.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety and Stability: Ensure a safe and stable environment for youth during shelter hours (9:00 PM - 8:30 AM).
  • Crisis Intervention: Offer crisis intervention, referrals, and support system strengthening.
  • Shift Schedule: Work three 12-hour overnight shifts weekly, remaining awake throughout, beginning at 8:45 pm.
  • Compensation: The starting wage is $21.71 to $24.25 per hour.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: At least two years of direct experience or education in social sciences related to high-risk youth.
  • Lived Experience: We highly value candidates who have personal experience overcoming challenges similar to those faced by our youth, providing them with unique empathy and understanding.
  • Availability: Must carry a cell phone during working hours.

Duties Include:
  • Environment Management: Maintain a healthy shelter environment and utilize best practices for positive behavior facilitation.
  • Program Oversight: Enforce rules to keep a calm atmosphere and manage safety decisions, including evictions or law enforcement contact if needed.
  • Transition Coordination: Assist with participant transitions into and out of the shelter.
  • Documentation: Record interactions and behaviors, and report significant events to the Program Director.
  • Participant Care: Prepare evening snacks, track attendance, and manage participant identification and behavior.
