Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an Electrical or Controls Engineer to support engineering design, plant modernization, and technical project execution activities. Experience in power generation is desired but not required.

The Electrical & Controls Design Engineer is responsible for developing, evaluating, and implementing electrical and control system designs that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, applicable codes and standards, and design development processes.

The engineer will prepare engineering analyses, calculations, specifications, and design change packages for equipment upgrades, plant modifications, and modernization projects. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions, improve system performance, and ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and operational requirements.

Engineers in this role have opportunities to lead technical projects, support major plant upgrades, participate in design reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives through engineering innovation and design optimization.


Job Requirements

Education

  • B.S. degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in digital and/or analog control systems such as integrated plant control systems, transmitters, instrumentation, digital controllers, or analog controllers is preferred.
  • Two or more years of engineering experience is preferred but not required; experience in power generation, industrial facilities, or energy-related industries is beneficial.
  • Strong background in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering with knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and engineering practices.
  • Experience with engineering design processes, including preparation of calculations, specifications, engineering evaluations, and design change documentation.
  • Ability to develop and lead design modifications, equipment upgrades, modernization initiatives, and capital improvement projects.
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting design reviews, technical evaluations, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts and recommendations.
  • Project management and technical leadership experience is preferred.
  • Infrequent overnight travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Design Engineering & Project Execution

  • Develop electrical and controls system designs, modifications, and upgrades supporting plant improvement and modernization initiatives.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, analyses, specifications, technical evaluations, and design documentation.
  • Develop engineering packages for equipment replacements, technology upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
  • Evaluate existing system designs and identify opportunities for optimization, performance enhancement, and lifecycle improvements.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, safety requirements, and plant design criteria.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight throughout project development and implementation.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, procurement, and engineering organizations to successfully execute projects.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and validation of newly installed equipment and system modifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering team members and project stakeholders.
  • Serve as a technical lead for assigned projects, managing scope, schedule, cost, and technical deliverables.
  • Support long-term plant modernization and technology improvement initiatives.
