Job description

Position Information ENTRY-LEVEL OPPORTUNITY FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS AND GRADUATES. The Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is looking to fill two (2) Civil Engineer I positions. There is one (1) vacancy with the Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division located in Honolulu.

There is one (1) vacancy with the Refuse Division located in Kapolei. What You Will Do Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division: Perform routine civil engineering work and assist in preparing design plans, estimates, and reports. Follow specific instructions from a licensed engineer and adhere to well-established engineering principles and practices.

The scope of work involves simple projects such as replacement, improvements, repairs, and rehabilitation to gravity sewer lines. Refuse Division: Under the supervision and direction of the Planning & Engineering Branch Chief, this position is responsible for learning and assisting with solid waste planning, resource recovery, and engineering projects, and learning to develop engineering judgement. They will receive training in adhering to applicable safety practices, rules, and procedures, and perform all duties safely and appropriately to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.

Special Work Requirements Occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, sewage environment and gases, chemicals, coating fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment. Some physical dexterity required to occasionally perform field investigations, which includes climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks and manholes, crawling through pipes, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces. Regular hours anticipated, but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday work to accommodate emergency situations, unusual problems or workload.

Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies. The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS), Water Resources Division, has one (1) vacancy for Civil Engineer I located in Honolulu. What You Will Do Under close supervision, performs routine and well-defined civil engineering work to support the development, planning and design of projects in the Capital Projects program.

Conduct routine site visits to assist with preparing feasibility studies, environmental assessments, impact statements, design of water systems, and assessing the feasibility of resource supply options and new technological alternatives.
