What is an overnight call center job?

Overnight call center jobs are customer support or IT support jobs. Many facilities, such as hospitals, police stations, and other public buildings remain open 24 hours a day and may need technical support at any time. Similarly, some services, such as credit card and banking services must be able to address customer issues, such as lost or stolen cards or identity theft at any time day or night. At an overnight call center, your duties are to answer inbound telephone calls on the night shift and troubleshoot customer or user issues.

What is an overnight call center job?

Overnight call center jobs involve working late night or early morning shifts to provide customer service, technical support, or emergency assistance outside of regular business hours. Employees in these roles answer calls, resolve issues, and often handle inquiries from customers in different time zones. These positions may require strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to stay alert during nontraditional work hours. Overnight call center jobs can be found in industries like healthcare, telecommunications, and finance. Some positions may offer remote or hybrid work options.

What are some unique challenges faced by employees in an overnight call center role, and how can they be managed?

Overnight call center employees often face challenges such as maintaining focus during late hours, managing fatigue, and adapting to a reversed sleep schedule. To overcome these, it's important to establish a consistent sleep routine, use strategies to stay alert during shifts (like taking short breaks and staying hydrated), and communicate regularly with team members for support. Many organizations also provide wellness resources and opportunities for overnight staff to connect and debrief, which helps foster a collaborative and supportive environment.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Cardiologist in this primarily outpatient role, you will join our dynamic, award winning Cardiovascular Team in Tacoma, Washington, on the campus of St. Joseph Medical Center. Coverage will also include St. Anthony in Gig Harbor. We are recognized for exceptional patient care and outcomes throughout the region. Our program consistently performs at the level of major academic medical centers, with the outcomes to prove it.  We are among the highest PCI volumes in Washington State and a leader in cardiovascular quality and outcomes. You will provide compassionate and expert care, conducting thorough assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support the holistic well-being of patients and their families. To be successful in this role you will be dedicated to excellent patient care and possess expertise in diagnosing and managing complex diseases with strong communication skills. You will also demonstrate a deep commitment to patient-centered care and the capacity to thrive within a collegial and supportive environment. Our service cares for complex, high-acuity cardiac patients requiring a full spectrum of cardiovascular expertise.

Our service line extends across a 10-hospital CommonSpirit system with three tertiary centers, including comprehensive heart failure and a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy center of excellence, giving you the depth of a major health system with the feel of a cohesive, collaborative team.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • Center for Cardiovascular Health: The Center for Cardiovascular Health at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) encompasses over 150 providers, including interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, advanced heart failure specialists, cardiac imaging specialists, vascular surgeons, thoracic surgeons, cardiac surgeons and anesthesiologists, among other specialists. Our programs have achieved significant recognition within the region and nationally for our quality and outcomes. We are a high volume program performing over 1100 open heart surgeries, 2400 PCIs and 2000 ablations annually. We provide care for over 200,000 patients in our cardiology clinics annually and provide inpatient services for our healthcare system that includes over 1500 beds and 10 hospitals in the Greater Seattle Area.
  • Position Details: This position is five days per week located at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma and St. Anthony Medical Center in Gig Harbor. Two to three days per week at each location. All physicians rotate through imaging. Opportunity for teaching fellows, if interested.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday. Five day work week.
  • Call: Inpatient responsibilities are while on call only. Weekday call (1:16 weeks) involves onsite inpatient rounding at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. Shared weekend call (1:12 weeks). Some overnight call required. Nocturnal APP and fellows minimize overnight call.
  • Team based approach: Our team focuses on providing appropriate, compassionate, and state-of-the art medical care for our patients. Our clinicians comprise a dedicated and collaborative team that support each other and work together to create a positive work environment.
  • Learning opportunities: We support opportunities for continuing medical education and professional growth.
  • Innovation: Our culture promotes new approaches, best practice standards and continual improvement for both patient and team member safety using our Virginia Mason Production System with the vision of being the quality leader in healthcare.

A PROGRAM BUILT ON CLINICAL EXCELLENCE

Our program consistently performs at the level of major academic medical centers, with the outcomes to prove it:

โ€ข CommonSpirit Health PCI Center of Excellence

โ€ข American Heart Association: Multiple Gold Awards, Get With The Guidelines (AMI)

โ€ข Society of Thoracic Surgeons: Multiple 3-Star Awards for cardiac surgery outcomes
