YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The Market Hog Selector selects finisher hogs for sale by assessing body composition according to company standard operating procedures and estimates market hog weight to meet sales requirements while ensuring we follow schedules for the processing facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned.

  • Assesses hog body composition in finishing sites to project sales of pigs according to marketing requirements.
  • Identifies and marks hogs to be moved or sold to the appropriate destination.
  • Delivers load movement paperwork to necessary farm sites in a timely fashion.
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor and production about group performance and provides data through written reports and email correspondence.
  • Counts inventory and number of pigs scheduled for sale as needed.
  • Assists other team members to effectively meet department and company goals.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred. Required:

  • A clear and valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record (MVR) required.

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred; minimum 1+ years' swine production experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds, and sometimes push and/or move up to 300 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is commonly exposed to airborne particles and gases at low concentrations.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to waste material, hog and feed dust.
  • The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.
