Job description

Overview:

$16.90 / hour

Meet The Creep Monsters (Scary Farm)

Knott's Scary Farm is casting improvisational performers to entertain Scary Farm guests in various photo locations for "Meet The Creep" interactive experiences. Candidates must meet specific height and characteristic qualifications. Performers should have the ability to remain "in-character" for extended periods of time, read social cues from guests, and tailor each interaction to the guest/group in front of them while maintaining the creative direction for the role assigned. This role performs only in photo locations and not in mazes or street zones. Characters represent existing themed areas of Knott's Scary Farm. Per the casting team's direction, select candidates may be asked to perform a scripted lines or improvise as an assigned character. Candidates should be able to commit to ALL Scary Farm event dates. These roles are compensated at a rate of $16.90/hr.

HEIGHT/CHARACTER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • FEMALE PRESENTING (5'5" - 5'10") – Experienced improvisational performers with a commanding presence. The characters have a silhouette that is proportionate to their height, and the performer should be able to confidently and comfortably perform in high heels and heavy makeup for extended periods of time. The characters represent varying Scary Farm themed areas.
  • MALE PRESENTING (5'6" - 5'9") - Strong movers/physical comedians with over-the-top facial expressions and body movements. The character has a silhouette that is proportionate to their height, with lanky limbs .
  • MALE PRESENTING (5'6" - 5'9") - Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) actor that can comfortably switch languages and tailor interactions to the guest directly in front of them. They should have strong storytelling and improvisation abilities and be knowledgeable of cultural traditions and heritage. The character has a silhouette that is proportionate to their height.
  • MALE PRESENTING (5'9 - 5'11") Athletic attributes with purposeful movements and strong gestures. The character performers silently and relies solely on their body movements to communicate.
  • MALE PRESENTING (5'11" and Taller) Intimidating features with a commanding presence. The character has a deep voice and the ability to perform at varying different volume levels and intensity.

  • Dressed ready to move and act like a monster, but please come dressed as yourself... NO COSTUMES, MONSTER MAKEUP, OR PROPS.

Responsibilities:
    • Uses creativity and common sense while startling and scaring guests in a safe and effective manner that utilizes performance techniques taught in training
    • Works as a member of a team to achieve overall atmosphere and goals set by Entertainment leadership and show directors
    • Consistently performs role as scripted and/or conceived
    • Remain in character while "on‑stage” and in view of guests and interact with guests while performing in a professional and artistic manner
    • Utilizes a variety of props and noise makers to support the guests scare experience in a safe manner
    • Performs vocalizations such as, grunts, groans, growls, screams, and other monster noises to contribute to the assigned character
    • Maintains changes in posture, walk, body movements, and physical presence to enhance character believability
    • Provides guest service according to Six Flags standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions, and giving accurate directions
    • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Six Flags Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision
    • Meets scheduling availability requirements that include nights, weekends, and holidays
    • Fulfills Scary Farm’s attendance requirements as outlined in the Six Flags attendance policy
    • Adheres to the Six Flags Rules of Conduct including specific costuming and grooming standards as outlined in Employee Guidelines and other park/division specific policies and procedures
    • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications:
    • Availability to work all assigned Scary Farm training and event dates that include weekday/weekends nights and holidays. Some shifts start as early as 3pm and some shifts go as late as 3am
    • Experience in stage acting or haunted attractions helpful, but not required
    • Willingness and ability to wear heavy make‑up and/or a mask that covers the entire face for extended periods of time in varying Southern California temperatures and weather conditions
    • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, and DMV
    • Provide record of previous employment, education, and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law
