Job description

Breeder Flock Specialist 

Full Time - Salaried

  • Applicants must not now, or at any time in the future, require employer sponsorship for a work visa.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer. 
  • Must be 18 years of age or older (all plant positions) 

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range.  The base hiring pay range for this role is between $47,425-$66,400 per year, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.

PURPOSE: 

In assistance to Breeder Supervisor maximize breeder productivity and profit contributions by planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling activities to achieve least base egg cost, which meets and/or exceeds customer specifications on assigned breeder farm. 

MINIMUM HIRING SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • Good work history - stability with previous employment or internal position (1 year minimum). 
    • Performance results - must have met expectations with previous employer, and/or Jennie-O Turkey Store (internal candidate) in the following: 
    • Attendance and Dependability 
    • Performance: Quantity and Quality 
    • Behavior and Cooperation 
  • Valid driver's license with good vehicle operating records. 
  • Must be in good physical condition (able to wear eye, respiratory, and any/all safety protection for extended periods of time). 
  • Willing to work every other weekend on a 5-day work week schedule. 
  • Good math ability to perform farm production and budget record keeping tasks (9th grade level math). 
  • Good mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools to perform minor repairs and maintenance activities. 
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively and manage the direct happenings on the farm in the absence of the breeder farm supervisor. 

PREFERRED HIRING SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • 4 years experience in poultry husbandry with responsibilities and standard performance results (preferably from breeder turkeys). 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrate a willingness to expand job knowledge and work toward eventually being a breeder supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Able to wear eye and respiratory equipment on an occasional basis. 
  • Able to shower at work daily. 
  • While performing job duties, able to:
    • Twist, stoop, and bend body occasionally. 
    • Squat occasionally. 
    • Lift and carry 26 to 80 live pounds occasionally from floor to waist level. 
    • Reach from below shoulder height occasionally to at/above shoulder height while lifting up to and over 50 live pounds. 
  • Able to do 9th grade level math (add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc). 
  • Able to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers and suppliers associated with the department. 
  • Able to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and team members. 
  • Able to write legibly. 
  • Able to work 5 days/week. Be available for varied hours/day occasionally. Be available for weekend rotation work. Be available to interchange shifts occasionally due to vacations and/or absences. Frequently work Holidays. 
  • Able to read and understand operating manuals and/or company programs and policies. 
  • Able to grasp and pinch with both hands occasionally. 
  • Able to perform basic mechanical task with hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, etc. 
  • Able to work alone frequently. 
  • Able to work both indoors and outdoors in varying degrees of temperatures and humidities, which are primarily dependent on seasonal weather conditions.
