JOB SUMMARY
The Biomedical Technician I is an entry level position for individuals with foundational education in electronics or biomedical technology and limited hands on experience. Working under close supervision, the Biomedical Technician I performs basic preventive maintenance and corrective repairs while developing skills necessary to support increasingly complex medical equipment. This role supports safe, reliable patient care and provides a structured pathway for progression to Biomedical Technician II.
JOB DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS
Type: Full-time, 80 hours per 2 week pay period
Typical hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00a-4:30p
Biomedical Tech I
The Biomedical Technician I is an entry level position for individuals with foundational education in electronics or biomedical technology and limited hands on experience. Working under close supervision, the Biomedical Technician I performs basic preventive maintenance and corrective repairs while developing skills necessary to support increasingly complex medical equipment. This role supports safe, reliable patient care and provides a structured pathway for progression to Biomedical Technician II.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED and one of the following:
- Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) certificate, or
- Associate degree (or two year technical degree) in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field, or
- Equivalent Department of Defense Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) military training.
- Any formal military training in advanced electronics maintenance and repair (with practical experience in diagnosing and servicing complex electronic systems) may be considered equivalent to the stated education requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or related field- preferred
Certification & Licensures:
- Eligibility for or pursuit of Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification- preferred
Experience:
- 0-2 years of experience in biomedical equipment service or related electronics/electromechanical field- required
- Within 18 months obtain minimum of one healthcare system designated certification: Anesthesia, Telemetry, Nurse Call, Ventilator, OR Tables, OR Integration, OR Booms, CRRT, Telemetry Monitors, Imaging, ESU, Q-Stress Treadmill, Heart Lung Machine, Balloon Pumps, Dialysis, or related equipment certification- required
- Healthcare experience- preferred

The Biomedical Technician II is an experienced technician capable of independently performing preventive and corrective maintenance on a broad range of medical devices. This role supports moderate to high acuity equipment and functions with minimal supervision while contributing to departmental efficiency, compliance, and mentorship of entry level technicians.
Education:
- Associate degree (or two year technical degree) in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or related field or equivalent military BMET training- required
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline- preferred
Certification & Licensure:
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills across multiple device categories. Minimum of two healthcare system designated certifications must be obtained: Anesthesia, Telemetry, Nurse Call, Ventilator, OR Tables, OR Integration, OR Booms, CRRT, Telemetry Monitors, Imaging, ESU, Q-Stress Treadmill, Heart Lung Machine, Balloon Pumps, Dialysis, or related equipment certification- required
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or similar professional certification- preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of biomedical equipment service experience or equivalent related technical experience- required
- Experience supporting ICU, OR, or emergency department equipment- preferred

The Biomedical Technician III is a senior level individual contributor responsible for advanced maintenance and repair of high acuity, life support, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical equipment. This role serves as a technical authority within the department and supports compliance, quality improvement, and mentoring of other technicians.
Education:
- Associate degree, two (2) year technical degree in biomedical equipment technology or electronics technology, or equivalent military BMET training- required
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field- preferred
Certification & Licensures:
- Minimum of six healthcare system designated certifications must be obtained: Anesthesia, Telemetry, Nurse Call, Ventilator, OR Tables, OR Integration, OR Booms, CRRT, Telemetry Monitors, Imaging, ESU, Q-Stress Treadmill, Heart Lung Machine, Balloon Pumps, Dialysis, or related equipment certification- required
- Specialty certifications as applicable- preferred
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or similar professional certification- preferred
Experience:
- Five (5) years of biomedical equipment service experience- required
- Extensive experience with high acuity and life support systems- preferred
