Job description

Psychiatrist (MD/DO) – Remote Consulting Physician

This is a 100% remote consulting role supporting BHC’s psychiatric nurse practitioners with medication management. The position does not include direct client care, an assigned caseload, prescribing, or on-call responsibilities.

Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC) is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide clinical consultation and guidance to our psychiatric nurse practitioners. This flexible opportunity is ideal for a physician who wants to support providers and strengthen medication-management practices without maintaining a client caseload.

Responsibilities
  • Consult with psychiatric nurse practitioners regarding medication management and complex cases
  • Provide guidance on medication selection, dosing, side effects, interactions, monitoring, and treatment alternatives
  • Support evidence-based psychiatric practices and clinical decision-making
  • Help identify when additional evaluation, referral, or a higher level of care may be appropriate
  • Provide provider education and mentorship
  • Assist with medication-management policies, protocols, and quality-improvement initiatives
  • Advise clinical leadership on psychiatric services and patient-safety considerations

The consulting psychiatrist will not evaluate or treat clients directly, prescribe medication to BHC clients, or maintain a caseload. BHC’s psychiatric nurse practitioners will remain responsible for evaluating their clients, making and documenting treatment decisions, and prescribing within their authorized scope of practice.

Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Active medical license in good standing
  • Wisconsin medical license or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric medication management
  • Experience consulting with or mentoring psychiatric nurse practitioners
  • Experience with complex psychiatric cases
  • Effective communication, consultation, and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary behavioral health practices
Schedule and Compensation

This is a flexible, part-time consulting opportunity averaging approximately five hours per week. The schedule may include planned provider consultations, case discussions, and ongoing advisory support. Actual hours may vary based on BHC’s needs.

Competitive compensation will be based on experience, responsibilities, and anticipated time commitment. Final terms will be established through a written consulting agreement.
