Crane Operator/Material Handler

Job Summary

A leading steel processing and manufacturing organization is seeking experienced Remote-Control Overhead Crane Operators to support its tubular products operation.

This position is responsible for safely operating an overhead crane using a handheld remote control from the production floor. Operators will move, stage, load, unload, and position long-length steel tubing, pipe, rebar, and other steel products throughout the facility.

The ideal candidate will have previous overhead crane experience in a steel, metals, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment and will demonstrate strong attention to safety, load control, material placement, and equipment clearances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Safely operate overhead cranes using a handheld remote control.

· Lift, transport, position, stage, load, and unload long-length steel tubing, pipe, rebar, and related steel products.

· Properly attach and position hooks, chains, slings, magnets, or other approved lifting devices.

· Evaluate loads for proper balance, stability, and clearance before and during movement.

· Maintain a safe operating position and appropriate clearance from suspended loads.

· Follow designated travel paths, operating procedures, and established safety requirements.

· Stage material according to production schedules, work orders, and shipping requirements.

· Load and unload trucks, production equipment, storage areas, and designated staging locations as required.

· Accurately identify materials and ensure products are placed in the appropriate designated locations.

· Perform pre-use inspections of crane controls, hooks, chains, slings, lifting devices, and related equipment.

· Promptly report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or mechanical concerns to supervision.

· Communicate effectively using established hand signals, verbal communication, or radio communication when applicable.

· Assist with general material-handling and production support responsibilities as needed.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

· Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and established requirements for crane operation and material handling.

· Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational and production needs.

Qualifications

· Previous remote-control overhead crane experience strongly preferred.

· Previous experience in steel processing, metal manufacturing, fabrication, warehousing, or another heavy industrial environment preferred.

· Experience handling long, heavy, or irregularly shaped materials is highly desirable.

· Experience with steel tubing, pipe, rebar, structural steel, or related products is a plus.

· Ability to safely judge load balance, clearance, distance, and material placement.

· Strong situational awareness and commitment to safe work practices.

· Ability to operate a handheld crane remote while safely maneuvering within the designated work area.

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

· Strong communication and teamwork skills.

· Dependable attendance and punctuality.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

· Flexibility to work day or night shifts, 12-hour schedules, weekends, and overtime as required.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a 12-hour shift.

· Ability to bend, reach, maneuver, and perform physical duties throughout the workday.

· Ability to work safely around heavy machinery, moving equipment, suspended loads, and large steel products.

· Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include noise, temperature fluctuations, dust, and other typical manufacturing conditions.

· Must consistently wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow facility safety requirements.

Schedule

· Full-time

· 12-hour shifts

· Day shift and night shift opportunities

· Weekends as needed

· Overtime required based on production demands
