Job description

Sales Representative
Location: Birmingham, AL
Reports To: Sales Manager of Birmingham
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Type: Full-time

ABOUT US
McCorquodale Transfer (MT) is a full-service moving and relocation company based in Birmingham, Alabama - we are not a freight or long-haul trucking/logistics company. We handle residential and commercial moves, along with storage solutions and interior designer installs, for clients throughout our local market. We pride ourselves on providing exceptional service to our clients and fostering a collaborative, inclusive workplace for our team. Learn more about us at mtmoves.com.

THE ROLE
This is a local, in-market outside sales position based in Birmingham, AL - this is not a remote or work-from-home role. You must be able to be in the Birmingham area every day: out in the field meeting prospects and booking moves, and in our office when you're not in the field. You'll join a small sales team alongside the Sales Manager and our Sales Office Administrator.

This is a 100% outside sales position built for a true hunter. You will not be working a warm lead list or handling walk-in traffic. Success in this role means building your own pipeline: prospecting, cold outreach, networking, and territory development from the ground up. If you thrive on generating your own business and controlling your own income, this role offers real earning potential and autonomy.

COMPENSATION
60-70K base salary plus 8% commission draw.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop and execute a territory sales plan based on data and market research, adjusting your approach as you learn what works.
  • Identify prospects, set your own appointments, and manage the full sales cycle from first call to close.
  • Represent MT's full range of services — residential and commercial moves, storage solutions, and interior designer installs — with deep product knowledge, tailoring solutions to each client's needs.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline through consistent daily prospecting, calls, and in-person visits.
  • Handle objections and answer detailed service questions with confidence.
  • Prepare accurate proposals, booking packages, and sales reports.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in business or marketing preferred, not required.
  • 2+ years of outside sales experience with a track record of self-generated business. Industries like moving, logistics, roofing, solar, or other high-activity outside sales are a strong fit.
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Birmingham, AL area — this role requires daily in-market and in-office presence and is not remote.
  • Comfort with rejection and the resilience to keep prospecting through it.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM software, and sales management tools.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to travel 70-80% of the time within your territory, with occasional overnight stays for training or events.
  • Moving or relocation industry experience is a plus, not required.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You are self-motivated and do not need a lead list to get moving. You are comfortable being told no, multiple times a day, and treat it as part of the job, not a discouragement. You can read a room, adjust your pitch, and close. You manage your own schedule and hold yourself accountable to activity and results.
