What is an outside claims adjuster?

Outside claims adjusters, also known as field adjusters, are insurance professionals who investigate and assess insurance claims in person. They typically travel to the site of accidents, property damage, or other insured events to gather evidence, interview involved parties, and determine the extent of the insurance company's liability. Outside claims adjusters play a crucial role in ensuring that claims are handled fairly and in accordance with policy terms. Their work often involves inspecting properties, evaluating damages, and negotiating settlements with policyholders or claimants.

How does an outside claims adjuster typically collaborate with other departments during the claims process?

Outside Claims Adjusters work closely with multiple departments, including underwriting, legal, and customer service teams. While conducting field investigations and assessing damages, they must communicate findings and updates to these internal teams to ensure claims are processed accurately and efficiently. Regular collaboration helps resolve discrepancies, address policy details, and expedite settlements, making teamwork and clear communication vital to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an outside claims adjuster, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Outside Claims Adjuster, you need strong investigative skills, knowledge of insurance policies, and typically a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in insurance or a related field. Familiarity with claims management software, digital photography, and sometimes an adjuster’s license are also necessary.
