Job description

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Clinic Manager and Director of Behavioral Health Services, the nurse assists the psychiatric prescribers in providing quality care to patients. This includes facilitating medication refills, triaging patient needs, and providing patient education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Works collaboratively with the psychiatric prescribers for the coordination of quality healthcare to the patients in the behavioral health clinic
  • Coordinates medication refills with prescribers, which includes completing prior authorizations, calling/faxing pharmacies to ensure the accuracy of prescriptions and that the prescriptions have been received
  • Provides triage via phone or in person
  • Facilitates referrals for lab work requested by the prescribers, including internal and external referrals
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for patient exam room
  • Obtains medications from the pharmacy for injections taking place at the clinic
  • Provides injections as medically indicated
  • Documents patient encounters accurately and timely in the EMR
  • Recognizes emergent patient needs and prioritizes care
  • Assesses patients, provides education, and promotes integrated health
  • Assists with taking patient vital signs when medical assistant is not available
  • Assures quality of care through development, implementation and evaluation of professional nursing standards
  • Maintains and updates clinical skills by attending staff meetings and in-service trainings
  • Assists prescribers in completing requested paperwork, including disability determination, transportation assistance, and case management prescriptions
  • Coordinates with the patient's healthcare team to ensure quality of care
  • Assigns tasks to Medical Assistant as needed
  • Tracks necessary lab work requests and ensures labs have been completed on a timely basis which includes coordinating with onsite laboratory
  • Reviews completed labs and coordinates with prescriber to address any concerns
  • Assists the team during crisis situations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Experience working within a Behavioral Health Clinic preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Registered Nurse license issued by the state of Wisconsin. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). May obtain within 6 months based on department discretion.
