Facility: OrthoIndy Hospital Main, Indianapolis, IN Department: OIH PACU Shift Details: 24 hours per week, two 12 hour weekday shifts from 6:30 am - 7:00 pm with minimal call and rotating days off. OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms and a 42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and knee joint replacement. Other services include an urgent care, clinics, pre-op clinic, imaging and physical therapy.

General Statement of Duties:

The Registered Nurse PPOP PACU provides nursing care and service during the preoperative and postoperative periods, integrating and making nursing judgments pertaining to the patient's condition on a routine and emergency basis. The position oversees the supervision of all non-licensed personnel, while also receiving direction from Physicians.

Essential Duties:

  1. Monitors and assesses patient condition and reports any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to manager and appropriate Physicians.
  2. Completes treatments and procedures as ordered and assigned by the Physician, consistent with patient complexity and commensurate with the skill, knowledge, and training of the individual.
  3. Provides care safely, with adequate quality, quantity, and timeliness and according to applicable standards.
  4. Admits patients to all areas within pre and post-operative and post-anesthesia services, and receives and reviews pre post-operative report.
  5. Sets-up, operates and monitors the use of various systems, equipment and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
  6. Reviews and initiates Physician's orders, administers medication, parenteral fluids and treatment as needed.
  7. Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed. Distributes educational material as appropriate.
  8. Maintains medication and nursing documentation within the patient record.
  9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and development levels of patients served.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • 2-4 years PACU, ICU and/or ER Registered Nurse experience required; 4-6 years of experience preferred
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required
  • BLS, ACLS certification required; PALS preferred
