Sr. Advanced Mechanical Engineer
Techtronic Industries, the world leader in cordless technology spanning Power Tools, Outdoor Power Equipment, Floor Care Appliances and Accessories is seeking a Sr. Advanced Mechanical Engineer for its Ryobi Outdoor Products Advanced Engineering team at our Innovation Center in Anderson, SC.
The Sr. Advanced Mechanical Engineer is a technical leader within the Advanced Engineering team, responsible for developing, analyzing, and maturing complex mechanical systems for next-generation tools. This role focuses on transforming early concepts and emerging technologies into robust, feasible mechanical solutions through advanced analysis, prototyping, and testing.
This position operates upstream of the traditional product development process with an emphasis on technical innovation and risk reduction. The Sr. Advanced Mechanical Engineer will lead mechanical design strategy using first-principles analysis, math models, and simulations, while also building prototypes and validate designs through testing to achieve product-ready solutions. The Advanced Engineering team is highly collaborative, deeply hands-on, and driven by curiosity and learning as we develop new and innovative outdoor products.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead advanced mechanical system design for next-generation outdoor products

  • Own mechanical feasibility, performance validation, and technical risk reduction for advanced projects

  • Develop and evaluate mechanisms, structures, and integrated systems using first-principles analysis, FEA, CFD, and physical testing

  • Translate early concepts into technically mature designs suitable for transition into product development

  • Build, test, and iterate functional prototypes to validate durability, performance, and manufacturability

  • Define system requirements, user operation methods, and design trade-offs

  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Industrial Design, and other cross-functional teams to ensure balanced technical solutions

  • Guide junior engineers through complex mechanical design challenges and best practices

  • Communicate technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to engineering leadership and other stakeholders

  • Contribute to budget, schedule, and quality planning to support key advanced engineering milestones

Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mechanical or related Engineering disciplines; advanced degree a plus

  • 5+ years of experience in product advanced engineering, concept maturation, or innovation in consumer products, automotive, or adjacent industries

  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD (Solidworks, NX, etc.) and rapid prototyping

  • Excellent mechanical design fundamentals with experience in mechanisms, gear design, structures, engineering materials, and manufacturing processes

  • Proven track record of overseeing and evaluating the design of consumer products from start to finish is a major plus

  • Experience building prototypes, developing test plans, and defining acceptance criteria

  • Ability to couple first-principles analysis with advanced tools such as FEA, CFD, and AI/ML to guide mechanical design

  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages of development simultaneously

  • Work with a high degree of autonomy, leadership, and proactivity

  • Experience with measurement equipment for vibration & sound is a plus

  • Willingness to travel ~5-10% (domestic/international)

Software
MS Office, NX, SolidWorks, Ansys Mechanical, LS-Dyna, Fluent, Discovery, KISSsoft
We Value:
  • Self-starters who can work well autonomously and in collaboration with teams

  • Individuals with the "Maker" mindset - excited to jump into a new project and not afraid to get their hands dirty

  • Collaborative contributors - bring outside experience and interests to brainstorming sessions
  • Cross functional communicators - able to translate information between technical and non-technical co-workers

  • Experience with Rapid Prototyping (varying materials and processes)

  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems (ex. motors, microcontrollers, batteries)
