Job description

Trumbull Industries, Inc. is a leading wholesale distributor headquartered in Warren, Ohio. We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a shift Supervisor at our MDC facility located in Warren, Ohio. The responsibilities for this position include directing and coordinating all shipping, dispatch and front dock supervisory functions for the Master Distribution Center on the day turn shift. Other responsibilities of this position include:


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach, and develop the hourly workforce of 10 to 20 warehousemen who perform order selection, packing and loading functions at the MDC. This responsibility includes ensuring compliance with all company policies, and procedures, while motivating those that report to you.
  • Direct your team to ensure accurate and efficient order picking.
  • Monitor and take steps to correct all discrepancies as they relate to the individual you supervise. This includes reviewing and taking steps to correct problems gathered from customer claim forms, mis-picks, incorrect shipping labeling, or any other problems related to outbound shipments.
  • Direct your team to ensure proper crating, packaging, palletizing and proper loading techniques to ensure accuracy and prevent damage.
  • Communicate with all company truck drivers and with all outbound truck drivers including TL, LTL, and parcel shipments. Take action for of any delayed shipments due to room constraints, missing or incomplete BOL, carrier holiday schedules, etc.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of facility and material handling equipment with those individuals you supervise on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Ensure that the safety program and procedures are strictly adhered to in all areas for those individuals that you supervise.
  • Oversee quality housekeeping as a priority and a source of employee pride.
  • Communicate daily to the MDC Manager on all activities that fall under your responsibilities and direct all other request to the MDC Manager. 
  • Train and develop those individuals that you supervise in the area of orientation, basic skills, operations, product knowledge, and safety.
  • Review and update continuously all procedures related to assuring quality and productivity from all those individuals you supervise.

Warehouse Management Responsibilities:

  • Attain and maintain knowledge of Trumbull’s advanced warehouse management system.
  • Utilize prelude advanced warehouse management software to be able to print, batch, and follow outbound orders throughout the warehouse. 
  • Create and modify truckload ASN and Lowe’s hangtags for shipments.
  • Use RF to load truckload shipments and to research missing or overflow shipments. 
  • Manage outbound docks (LTL, TL, and Parcel) to ensure timely shipping of all orders. 
  • Order and maintain packaging material from our local packaging vendors, maintaining adequate supply of materials without excess.
  • Restocking of unshipped items (due to order cancellation or picking discrepancies) from docks and into proper warehouse location. 
  • Work with Dispatch supervisor and MDC Manager to ensure packaging is sufficient to ensure damage free deliveries while maintaining minimal cost to the MDC. 
  • React to special packaging requests from customers.

Bench Marks:

  • Lead and develop all the individuals that report to you. The expectations are that your reports should know their responsibities and requirements. They should not be disgruntled but instead should respect your leadership. 
  • Help reduce operating costs, especially labor cost for your areas of responsibilities
  • Reduce all picking / shipping discrepancies to a level of 99.9% accuracy.
  • Reduce all damage levels to 99.9% or less. 
  • Ensure total building security during work hours and secure building when leaving.
  • Maintain accurate safety level (zero lost time accidents per year). Should have a short daily safety meeting and a scheduled monthly safety meeting. 

Other Areas of Responsibilities:

  • This position requires the ability and knowledge to function and cover responsibilities in other supervisory roles including as Dispatch Supervisor and 2nd shift Shipping Supervisor position.
  • This position requires communicating and working as a team member with all the MDC supervisors and managers. This is especially important when utilize manpower to cross cover needs in all departments. 
  • This position requires working with the Dispatch Supervisor to adhere to the outbound schedule of pickups for truckload and LTL shipments.
  • This position requires communicating with the Receiving Supervisor when the shuttle trailer is available for scrap pallets to be loaded. 
  • This position requires communicating with the Office Manager when packaging supplies (packing slip envelopes, parcel boxes, foam chemical, etc.) need to be reordered.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education is preferred. Must possess a high school diploma.
  • 4+ years of progressive supervisory experience required in a distribution environment.
  • Experience supervising multiple functions within the distribution center, including but not limited to; Inbound (receiving), Production, Packing, and Shipping Departments.
  • Must possess the leadership and supervisory skills to be able to lead, coach and motivate warehouse employees along with excellent interpersonal skills to relate well to employees, peers, various levels of management, and have a strong customer orientation to develop strong customer relationships.
  • Must be computer literate and be able to utilize Microsoft Excel and Word. Must have exposure to a WMS (Warehouse Management System).
  • Must possess strong written and communication skills to clearly express his or her ideas to customers, employees, and higher levels of management, and document performance reviews and discipline when needed.
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to evaluate issues as they occur and respond to issues with creative problem solving.
