What is an outbound sales?

An Outbound Sales job involves proactively reaching out to potential customers through calls, emails, or other communication channels to generate leads and close sales. Sales representatives in this role focus on building relationships, pitching products or services, and persuading prospects to make a purchase. This job requires strong communication, persistence, and the ability to handle objections effectively. Outbound sales professionals often work with sales targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success.

What does an outbound sales do?

Outbound Sales professionals spend much of their day making calls or sending emails to prospective clients, introducing products or services, and following up on warm leads. They are often responsible for keeping detailed records in CRM systems, scheduling appointments, and meeting or exceeding set sales targets. Collaboration with marketing teams and regular check-ins with sales managers are also common parts of the role. This structured routine helps drive measurable results and fosters a supportive team environment focused on growth and customer acquisition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in outbound sales, and why are they important?

To thrive in Outbound Sales, you need strong persuasive communication skills, resilience, and a basic understanding of sales principles, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant experience. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, telephony systems, and sales tracking tools is typically required. Excellent listening, problem-solving abilities, and a positive, goal-oriented mindset set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for reaching targets, building rapport with potential clients, and sustaining motivation in a high-energy sales environment.

Founding Inside Sales Director Outbound Call Center

Aurum Wireless - AT&T Business Dealer

Job description

Benefits:
  • Bonus based on performance
  • Company parties
  • Free food & snacks
  • Opportunity for advancement
  • Relocation bonus
  • Signing bonus
  • Training & development

Aurum Wireless is building a high-performance outbound sales department, and we’re looking for an experienced phone-sales leader to build it with us.
This is not a position where you inherit a finished team, established scripts, and a fully developed call-center operation. You will begin by learning our sales process firsthand, working the phones, understanding our customers, and proving that you can execute the process yourself.
From there, you will help turn that process into a scalable department by developing the playbook, recruiting representatives, leading training, coaching calls, establishing performance standards, and building a team capable of producing consistent results.
This is a hands-on builder role for someone who has spent years in phone sales and knows what a successful sales floor should look, sound, and feel like.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Learn and personally execute our outbound sales process
  • Help refine scripts, objection handling, follow-up sequences, and closing strategies
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and develop new phone-sales representatives
  • Build a repeatable training and ramp-up program
  • Establish call standards, scorecards, KPIs, and daily accountability
  • Listen to calls and provide direct, practical coaching
  • Lead daily huddles, call reviews, and performance meetings
  • Improve lead management, pipeline discipline, and follow-up
  • Identify problems quickly and implement solutions
  • Build the department from its first representatives into a larger, structured sales organization
  • Develop future team leads and managers as the department grows
Who We’re Looking For
This is not an entry-level position or someone’s first opportunity to manage salespeople.
The ideal candidate has:
  • Extensive phone-sales or call-center sales experience
  • A proven history of personally producing strong sales results
  • Experience coaching and managing outbound sales representatives
  • Experience building, rebuilding, or significantly improving a sales team
  • Strong knowledge of scripting, objection handling, call coaching, and performance management
  • The ability to recruit and identify talented salespeople
  • A highly accountable, competitive, and hands-on leadership style
  • The willingness to sell alongside the team instead of managing from behind a desk
  • Clear examples of measurable results they have produced
Experience in B2B sales, telecommunications, business services, or subscription-based products is helpful, but not required. Deep phone-sales experience and the ability to build a productive team matter most.
Compensation and Growth
The compensation package will be designed to heavily reward both your personal experience and the department you build.
It will include:
  • Guaranteed Basepay DOE and package you accept.
  • Uncapped commission on personal sales
  • Ongoing overrides based on team production
  • Bonuses tied to recruiting, developing, and ramping successful representatives
  • Department growth and performance bonuses
  • A direct path into senior sales leadership as the organization expands
The person who successfully builds this department will have the opportunity to earn substantially more as the team grows. We are not looking to cap the upside of someone who creates real, measurable value for the company.
This Role Is a Good Fit If You:
  • Want the authority and opportunity to build something from the ground up
  • Enjoy selling, coaching, recruiting, and developing people
  • Know how to create urgency and accountability without destroying morale
  • Can turn a successful sales process into a system other people can repeat
  • Want your compensation and career growth tied directly to what you build

Candidates should be prepared to discuss specific numbers, results, and examples during the interview process.
