OSP Design Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and implementation of Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure. This includes fiber optic, copper, and wireless networks that are installed outside of buildings, such as underground or aerial cable routes. They coordinate with engineering teams, contractors, and clients to ensure projects meet technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and are delivered on time and within budget. Their role is critical in expanding and maintaining reliable communication networks.

A common challenge is aligning project timelines and ensuring clear communication among diverse stakeholders, each with their own priorities and constraints. Managing changes in project scope, unexpected site conditions, or regulatory requirements also requires adaptability and strong problem-solving skills. Building strong relationships and maintaining open channels for feedback are essential for keeping projects on track and within budget.

To thrive as an OSP (Outside Plant) Design Manager, you need expertise in telecommunications engineering, OSP design standards, and project management, often supported by a degree in engineering or related field and relevant industry experience. Department: OSP - Engineering & Design
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Nephi, UT

Description
JSI invites you to join our team as an Outside Plant (OSP) Project Manager on our Fiber Design & Implementation Team in our Nephi, UT office, where you'll play a critical role in advancing broadband and telecommunications initiatives that expand connectivity and drive digital inclusion-while advancing your career within a mission-driven, growth-focused organization.
About the Company:
JSI is a leading full-service consulting firm specializing in broadband solutions. Position Overview:
The OSP Project Manager is responsible for executing assigned OSP fiber network design projects across multiple markets. As the design lead, you will direct OSP Engineers and CAD/GIS technicians to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget to the required project standards. This design team will work on FTTH projects, completing detailed high-level and low-level designs, field verification/staking, submitting jurisdiction for ROW permits, and incorporating field construction redlines into final as-built plans. The OSP Design Manager provides the required status updates to the Project Manager and ensures each design phase of work is delivered according to the project schedule. This role requires an individual with strong leadership, facilitation, management, and client relationship skills. This position will be a partner across the JSI organization and the client's organization to plan and execute project delivery.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and drive the delivery of the overall OSP FTTH design project.
  • Monitor design progress, oversee design scheduling, and track design status to schedule.
  • Will interface with the client's design team. Build strong working relationships by providing regular status updates to the JSI Project Manager and facilitating design alignment meetings.
  • Coordinate closely with the field construction team to ensure design plans are understood and followed.
  • Attend regular meetings with clients, stakeholders, and project managers to report on progress and manage risks.
  • This position is integral to our vision, strategy, and overall growth plans and requires strong leadership, people skills, and problem-solving abilities.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and/or professional engineer certification is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of experience successfully managing complex OSP FTTH design projects.
  • A high degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Strong sense of urgency. Agile in fast-paced environments, multi-tasking, and project reprioritization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as listening and interpretation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Google Earth, and other GIS platforms.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.

Benefits & Compensation
  • Competitive salary + performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
  • Generous PTO and travel support.
  • Ongoing professional development and educational opportunities.
